Stranger Things Have Happened

I live in Wisconsin so technically I should be a Brewers fan who sends bad wishes in the direction of Chicago and their world famous Cubs. The problem is I love Eddie Vedder and the Pearl Jam font man has just released a song for the Chicago baseball team that I find intoxicating. The new tune (which was created at the request of Cubs great Ernie Banks) is called “All the Way.” The song is available on Pearl Jam’s Web site right now, but you can hear it being played almost non-stop on Chicago radio stations and in bars near … Continue reading

Ad or Art Inspiration Challenges

In previous articles I have discussed how artwork, ads and other items are great inspirational pieces for your layouts. Sometimes it might be a mood or the setting, sometimes the colors used in the ad and sometimes it might even be the entire layout of the ad. I thought that perhaps that by seeing some examples of artwork created using an ad or piece of artwork as the inspiration, it might get you in the mood to try the same. Just as an extra thought, often when I am in a scrap rut, I will grab an ad that I … Continue reading

The Headline is the Most Important Part of an Ad

If you are on a limited budget and designing your own ads or working on your own marketing and advertising for your web site, marketing materials, etc.—it helps to know a few basic things about advertising. Even if you are able to afford to pay a professional to design your ads, you will still want to guide and direct them and be able to offer suggestions for what you want to say and how you want to say it. One important thing to remember is that the headline for your ad is the most important line. The headline has to … Continue reading

Controversial Tourism Commercial Creates Drama in New Mexico

I’ll admit the first time I saw the state funded commercials aimed at attracting travelers to New Mexico I laughed—a lot. The 30-second ads feature creepy looking reptilian spacemen dressed like tourists with the tag line “New Mexico—-the best place in the Universe.” Anyone who knows anything about the state realizes the campaign pokes fun at New Mexico’s famous connection to aliens. Most notably the fact that in 1947 the U.S. military said a weather balloon crashed in a Roswell desert, but the overwhelming consensus by residents (both past and present) is that it was a UFO. Since then the … Continue reading

Black Friday Comes Early

Retailers intend to kick off the Christmas shopping season early this year. In fact, some will begin today, three weeks before the typical Black Friday shopping extravaganzas. With high fuel costs, and other prices (including heating fuel) rising, people may be more cautious in their holiday spending. Numerous recalls of products from pet food and ground beef to toys and even toothpaste, have also left consumers with a bad taste in their mouths. All of these issues have retailers worried, so they are trying to give consumers a little nudge with earlier sales. As unsettling as all these issues may … Continue reading

Beatles Song + Diaper Commercial = Controversy

Have you seen the TV ad? Devoted Beatles fans are lashing out at the maker of a popular brand of disposable diapers. Procter & Gamble, the maker of Luvs diapers, is currently running a TV commercial which features the Fab Four’s 1967 peace anthem “All You Need Is Love.” The TV ad shows a diaper-clad tot wrestling with a stuffed bear as his smiling family looks on. The commercial’s tag line is: “All you need is Luvs.” Company executives say their use of the song was simply to provide consumers with an upbeat introduction to the new Luvs’ “Bear Hug … Continue reading

Disney + Celebrities = Hot New Ads

Who can send a pop princess to Wonderland, a soccer star to slay a dragon, and an award-winning actress down a magical staircase? Disney, of course. With a little help from celebrity photographer Annie Leibovitz, various Hollywood stars dressed up as classic Disney characters for a one-of-a-kind photo shoot to promote Disneyland and Walt Disney World’s Year of a Million Dreams campaign. In a recent interview with the media, Leibovitz admitted it didn’t take much to coax her famous friends to transform into Disney characters, including Cinderella, Snow White, Cinderella, The Little Mermaid, and Peter Pan. According to Leibovitz, Scarlett … Continue reading

More On MyGroceryDeals.Com

In addition to offering the sales ad browsing feature, the shopping list creator, the allergy flagger and several other options, mygrocerydeals.com also has a coupon printer. The software download is spam free, downloads quickly and there are literally tons of coupons to choose from. Check mark what you want, and print them out. Seems easy enough! That was really the only problem I had though. After checking off the coupons I hit print and it told me my printer was set up to “save” which it is not, and I had a lot of trouble getting them to print. So … Continue reading

Introducing MyGroceryDeals.com

With so many different websites to choose from when actively couponing, it’s hard to choose the one to go with. Several months ago, the owner of mygrocerydeals.com emailed me and asked me to check out the site. I’m a firm believer of giving something a 100% trial before deciding how I feel about it, so I waited to post my opinion on mygrocerydeals.com. In his email to me, Ed wrote: “mygrocerydeals.com is now live nationwide and is a free service that allows consumers to go online, do their grocery pre shopping based on advertised grocery flyer specials, look at nutritional … Continue reading
