Shocking Separation: Al and Tipper Gore

It seemed to come as a shock to everyone this week when it was announced that former Vice President Al Gore and his wife Tipper are divorcing after 40 years together. The couple told friends via email, “We are announcing today that after a great deal of thought and discussion, we have decided to separate. This is very much a mutual and mutually supportive decision that we have made together following a process of long and careful consideration. We ask for respect for our privacy and that of our family, and we do not intend to comment further.” Gore met … Continue reading

Alec Loorz and Kids vs. Global Warming

I always find it touching when I read about young people who are so concerned about environmental issues that they do something. Alec Loorz, a sophomore at El Camino High School in Ventura, Cali, is one of those young people trying to make a difference. Alec saw the Al Gore documentary An Inconvenient Truth when he was 12 years old. The film touched him so much that he applied to be one of the certified presenters to give the slideshow about the film. However, Alec’s application was rejected, perhaps because of his age. But, he wasn’t going to give up … Continue reading

Star Weekend Weddings

And you thought all of Hollywood “it” couples got married last week Saturday (7-7-07)… Turns out some celebs waited an extra seven days to tie the knot (either because all their reception venues were booked or they figured any number divisible by seven was good enough). Such is the case for Hollywood heavyweights Rebecca Romijn and Jerry O’Connell (who only seem like they have been dating for seven years). According to PEOPLE Magazine, the pair was married yesterday in Los Angeles. The actress’ rep tells the magazine, “Rebecca and Jerry were married on Saturday evening in an intimate ceremony at … Continue reading

Bob Geldolf vs. Al Gore

In this corner: Bob Geldolf, former front-man of The Boomtown Rats and the man who organized the Live Aid and Live 8 benefit concerts. And in this corner: former vice-president and resident greenie Al Gore. Both ready to do battle. Ding. Ding. Gore probably outweighs Geldolf by the equivalent of a dozen Sanjaya Malakars, but Geldolf is the one who has been getting in the most jabs. Most recently Geldolf has come out swinging at the politician-turned environmental activist, criticizing the Live Earth music events Gore is putting together this summer, saying they lack a specific goal. In a previous … Continue reading

Celebrities, The Environment, and Human Rights

Celebrities and their pet charities are a popular topic in this blog. Libby and I have written about stars lending a hand to the homeless, the innocent, and the sick. But, this week the spotlight focused on a growing concern among politicians, actors, and musicians—the environment. Actress Cameron Diaz, hip-hop producer Pharrell, and former vice president Al Gore joined forces to announce an international campaign to promote global warming awareness. The monster event to be held this summer is called Save Our Selves – The Campaign for a Climate in Crisis. It features a 24-hour “Live Earth” concert, which will … Continue reading
