The Skull in the Backyard

We seem to find some pretty interesting things in and around our home. There was the 1960 metal yo-yo, for example, or the weird and really old bottle opener that was discovered only when we replaced the dishwasher. There were the numerous golf balls in the backyard, and the old flannel shirt stuck so long in the hollow of a tree that the tree had started to grow around it. This is the case with older homes. There are lots of things to discover. Of course, none of them compare to our latest find in the backyard, a bleached white … Continue reading

Taking Great Animal Pictures at the Zoo

As I mentioned in an earlier article about Photographing Animals at the Zoo, I love taking pictures of wildlife, animals and pets. I just love animals. Every time I have the opportunity to photograph an animal, I get in active mode looking for that perfect shot. I am also the type of person to continuously take multiple photographs all in one session. Which brings me to an important tip. If you are working with a digital camera, take lots and lots of pictures. Keep snapping going for that perfect shot. You will wind up with a lot of bad shots, … Continue reading

The Raccoon Ate My Homework

Okay, here’s one to share with your school age children. Forget about the proverbial excuse: “The dog ate my homework.” (I think teachers have caught on to that one-wink, wink.) Rather, let’s take our lead from a Florida teen who used a raccoon as an excuse for a late assignment. According to local newspapers, Stephanie King told her music teacher that a raccoon was to blame for her missing homework. “I explained that the raccoon fell from the ceiling in my bathroom and it ran into my bedroom,” the 13-year-old seventh grader told the St. Petersburg Times. “Animal control came … Continue reading

McDonald’s Succumbs To The Hedgehog

File this under the “Strange But True” category. Just when you thought you had heard it all comes a gem like this: “After years of campaigning fast food giant McDonald’s is redesigning its McFlurry ice-cream containers because of pressure from hedgehog lovers.” Huh? Yes, that’s what my initial reaction was too. Surely, this must be some sort of joke. Or, perhaps, I am just missing something. But, oh, no, it’s true. Hedgehogs have apparently humbled the popular eatery into reconstructing its “killer” ice-cream treat covers. “Killer?” Apparently so. According to the British Hedgehog Preservation Society up until now the opening … Continue reading

Paris Hilton’s Exotic Animal Sends Her To The Hospital

Perhaps Paris Hilton should have read Aimee’s blog on exotic animals. The hotel heiress made an emergency trip to the hospital this week and she has her pet kinkajou Baby Luv to thank for it. Hilton’s publicist told news reporters that the raccoon-like animal bit Hilton on her left arm. The 25-year-old “Simple Life” star was not badly hurt, but did receive a tetanus shot before leaving the hospital. According to her publicist, Hilton was playing with her exotic pet early Tuesday morning “the way some people play with their cats and dogs” when the animal became excited and sunk … Continue reading

Curious George Tickle & Giggle Plush

I had been wanting to get my daughter a Curious George toy for the longest time. Nothing fancy — just a simple plush like the one I had when I was little. I found my old one recently, washed it, and gave it to her, but my mother had other ideas. She went out and bought my daughter the Curious George Tickle & Giggle Plush. Even though I sometimes miss the Curious Georges of old, I have to say that this George is definitely fun. This is a toy that makes my daughter laugh all of the time. The Curious … Continue reading
