Young Women’s Camp

Summer is quickly approaching. For those of you with young women it means that it is nearly time to send them off to camp. Young Women’s Camp brings back a lot of memories. One summer we had a lake full of leeches and the hike we went on was through brush literally covered with ticks. There were hundreds of ticks on each bush. The ASPCA: Celebrating 140 Years!

April 10th marked the one hundred and fortieth anniversary of the American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals. I read up on the history of the organization and was amazed at what I found! The ASPCA was founded by Henry Bergh, a man who came to be known around New York City as “The Great Meddler”. He was a diplomat who first became involved in fighting inhumanity toward animals while overseas at a post in Russia. 2006 Theme for Mutual

Every year the First Presidency along with the Quorum of the Twelve provides a theme for mutual (which is Young Men’s and Young Women’s). Leaders are supposed to incorporate the theme into opening exercises for their activities. This year the theme is: “Arise and shine forth, that thy light may be a standard for the nations’”(D&C 115:5). This is a wonderful theme as it encourages youth to stand up and be an example to those around them by sharing their testimonies. It also encourages the youth to live the standards of the church.
