The Open Road and a Carload of Puppies

Back in March I started to learn more about volunteer animal transports. A group of animal lovers share the driving duties to help get shelter pets from a dangerous situation (like a high volume kill shelter) to a safe one (like a no-kill shelter, foster home, or forever home). My First Transport — Canceled!

I’m sad to report that I wasn’t actually needed for the dog transport from Virginia to north Jersey. As it turns out, the organization doing the transporting was delivering more than just the three dogs I’d signed up for — they were running several simultaneous transports from Lexington, Virginia to Woodbridge, New Jersey. By the time Saturday morning rolled around, the two puppies had been taken off the transport (hopefully because they were going to new forever homes!) and Betty the Beagle was assigned to a different set of drivers. My First Dog Transport!

I’m very excited — I found out yesterday that I will be helping with a dog transport on Saturday March 25th. The goal is bringing three dogs from a shelter in Virginia to a rescue that will place them in foster homes until forever homes can be found! My brother has agreed to go with me. We’ll be leaving home (Point Pleasant New Jersey) around 4pm on Saturday and heading south to Newark, Delaware to pick up Betty the beagle and two unnamed puppies.
