Stuart Little 3: The Call of the Wild (2005)

“Stuart Little 3: The Call of the Wild” is the first Stuart Little film to be animated, rather than shot in live action. The voices of the characters are the same (Geena Davis as Eleanor, Hugh Laurie as Fredrick, Michael J. Fox as Stuart) with the exception of George, who is now voiced by Corey Padnos. Jonathan Lipnicki, George’s original voice, is now too old to sound like a little boy. The Littles are on their way to the lake for a relaxing vacation. Eleanor is looking forward to a whole summer with nothing to do, but when they arrive … Continue reading

Cinderella (1950)

Based on one of the most beloved fairy tales of all time, “Cinderella” is one of Disney’s most beloved masterpiece movies as well. This film has everything – talking mice, a wicked cat, a handsome prince, spells, and a beautiful dress. Disney didn’t miss a trick with this one. We are all familiar with the story, so I’ll be brief in my summary: Cinderella is an orphan, being raised by a wicked step-mother who makes her do all the housework and treats her very unkindly. All the love and attention goes to the step-mother’s own two ugly daughters. One day … Continue reading

Doogal (2006)

When I first rented this movie, I expected my kids to enjoy it, but I didn’t realize I would too. Doogal (voiced by Daniel Tay) is a cute furry dog who belongs to a girl named Florence. One day, while pursuing his ever-consuming quest for candy, Doogal accidentally breaks the town’s carousel, which has for years been the magic prison of a bad guy named Zeebad (Jon Stewart.) Zeebad is the twin brother of the town’s sorcerer Zebedee (Ian McKlellan) and he wants to take over the world by turning it into ice. He begins by freezing the carousel and … Continue reading

VeggieTales: It’s All About the Cebu!

About five years ago, my mom went to visit my sister in Virginia and came home babbling something about waltzing with potatoes and how there was this talking tomato and I really had to hear the “Song of the Cebu” and I would just love it. For a little while I thought she had picked up some strain of strange Virginian flu and should be quarantined until the delirium passed, but then she put in the video “Josh and the Big Wall” and I had a chance to figure out what on earth she was talking about. VeggieTales is the … Continue reading

Barbie in The Princess and the Pauper (2004)

Next in the Barbie movie series is “The Princess and the Pauper.” Anneliese is a princess, used to being pampered and dressed in the finest clothes. Her day is scheduled, she must be perfect at all times, and she is engaged to be married to the king of a nearby kingdom. She longs for her freedom. Every night she dreams about what it would be like to do whatever she wanted to do for just one day, but that chance is never given to her. In the meantime, she has fallen in love with Julian, her tutor, but she knows … Continue reading

The Best Animated Stories

With so many animated movies on DVD for children, it is hard to find the really, good ones so I did some research for you. I scoured through hundreds of DVDs on the market and one that stood out was made in the Walt Disney studio called A Treasure Trove of Stories. This children’s animated DVD runs for 32 minutes, offering a wonderful selection of stories, clean, family-oriented stories. The DVD was based on the book “The Very Hungry Caterpillar and Other Stories”, which features five, wonderfully narrated stories. The stories include: – The Very Hungry Caterpillar – This is … Continue reading

Robin Hood (1973)

A pox on the phony King of England! Robin Hood and his band of Merry Men have taken over Sherwood Forest and are living lives of gaiety and adventure, robbing from the rich and giving to the poor, thwarting the evil Sheriff of Nottingham and rescuing the fair Maid Marian. There’s a twist to this tale, however – Robin Hood is a fox. No, I don’t mean that he’s good looking – I mean, he’s an actual fox, as is Maid Marian. Little John is a bear, and Friar Tuck is a badger. Each of the characters in this Disney … Continue reading

The Little Mermaid- Platinum Edition

One of my favorite Disney movies of all time is “The Little Mermaid”. When I was in middle school I actually played Ursula in a performance of the tale, and have been absolutely hooked ever since. I purchased an Ursula limited editor doll, and owned a VHS copy of the movie that at one point I watched and sang along with almost every single day. I’m still prone to bust out with my own rendition of “ A Whole New World” ever now and then. In “The Little Mermaid” a mermaid named Ariel falls in love with a man who … Continue reading

She’s Not A Red-Headed Step-Child – Disney’s Little Mermaid Ariel

Redheads are distinctive and they are memorable. Some of the most famous redheads in our modern world include the former Duchess of York, Sarah Ferguson, Pippy Longstocking, Julianne Moore and Debra Messing. But the most famous, the most well known redhead is the Little Mermaid herself, Princess Ariel. Ariel demonstrates the unique qualities that many associate with redheads from feisty, smart, sexy and enchanting. Redheads are known for their fair skin, nearly translucent and often decorated with little freckles. Redheads are lush, beautiful and exotic. What’s frightening to imagine is that once upon a time, during the conception stage – … Continue reading

The Ant Bully: A Backyard Adventure

When I was younger I was huge fan of the movie “Honey I Shrunk the Kids”. One image that always stands out in my mind from the movie is the ants. In one scene in the movie the children get lost in the yard and the ants seem like monsters. That image of larger than life animals has stayed with me well into adulthood. Life size ants are back to some extent in the movie “The Ant Bully”. In the Ant Bully a young boy named Lucas Nickle is terrorized at school by bullies. If you have ever been bullied, … Continue reading
