If you’ve been reading my series on Super Bowl travel then you know attending the NFL’s biggest game can take a serious bite out of your budget. Unless you snagged free game tickets, plane fare, and hotel accommodations by winning a contest, or you have relatives that live near Glendale, Arizona then you will likely be doling out big bucks to watch the New York Giants take on the undefeated New England Patriots. However, for some, money is no object. And it is for you select individuals that I am writing this blog. If you have money to burn, then … Continue reading

Super Bowl XLII: What to Know Before You Go–Other Offerings

For the past few days I have been examining the options Super Bowl fans have in Phoenix as they prepare for the NFL’s biggest game of the season. In previous blog I covered everything from dining options to party places and everything in between. There is no doubt that in a few days Phoenix will be (at least temporarily) the hippest, hottest place in the nation. The super big Super Bowl crowds will likely displace the many snowbirds that flock to Arizona each winter, but I’m sure city and state leaders could careless. In the place of the repeat visitors … Continue reading

Super Bowl XLII—What to Know Before You Go

I wonder how many New York Giants fans are scrambling to find tickets to Super Bowl XLII? I actually have a few friends in Green Bay, Wisconsin who would be more than happy to unload their Super Bowl travel packages… Since the Packers froze themselves out of a chance to play in the NFL’s biggest game things have quieted down quite a bit around here. But for fans across the Northeastern portion of the United States I suspect travel plans to Arizona are just beginning to heat up. And they aren’t alone, business owners in the Phoenix area have been … Continue reading

Even More Kid-Friendly Vacation Destinations with Meaning

All this week I have been focusing on the upcoming spring break vacation season (after all, Easter is just two months away). Typically, it’s a time when parents take advantage of their children’s break from classes and head off on a family adventure. But instead of making a beeline to mingle with oversized mice in California or Florida, perhaps this year you could consider taking a trip that offers more educational value. As I mentioned in my previous blogs, vacations are great opportunities to learn about new cultures and take part in hands-on history lessons, especially if you choose the … Continue reading

Family Fun In Phoenix

I told you about my agonizing delay in Phoenix, Arizona in a previous blog and now I am here to make amends to the Valley of the Sun. The city, while scorching hot for most of the year, is wonderfully kid-friendly and is home to a number of unique attractions that will have you forgetting about the heat and focusing on family fun. Arizona Science Center Whether they are chasing each other through a giant sneezing nose, or shooting paper airplanes from a mock air traffic control tower, your kids will love exploring the hands-on exhibits and interactive displays at … Continue reading

Travel Tidbits—What’s In A Name?

Years ago I spent nearly 7 hours in the Phoenix airport waiting for my ATA flight to Hawaii to get off the ground. Allegedly, the plane had a “mechanical problem” that needed to be fixed in order for us to take off. Interestingly, the “mechanical problem” morphed into a weather delay (the weather in Arizona was fine) around hour five of our wait. In any case, when we finally departed I remember thinking I never want to be stuck in that airport again. What airport? Exactly. For as many hours as I spent walking around the place I never once … Continue reading

Marriage Laws – Arizona

As we continue our series on marriage laws, we are heading south to the desert states of Arizona. Arizona is one of three states that have covenant marriage on the books. The statue was added in 1998 and we’ll explore more about that in today’s look at Arizona marriage laws. Arizona Applicants do not need to be a resident of the state to marry there. You should be sure to check with the county where you plan to get married as each county may have specific requirements. Be sure to bring a valid photo ID along with your social security … Continue reading
