New York Buys into Payment Plan

Thanks to a comment by Valorie in my most recent article about Arizona’s new plan to pay high school students to stay in school, I also discovered that New York is offering students money. Low-income families in New York may earn big bucks for keeping their children in school and out of trouble. Mayor Bloomberg assures that he is not using public funds and that the program is completely operated on private money. Pay Students to Stay in High School?

I have heard of many tactics to encourage children to stay in school. When I was in school, the phrase, “be cool stay in school” was very popular. At some point in time I have seen famous stars telling students through commercials how important it is to stay in school and get an education. Kudos to the Freedom Writers

I think educators have such a hard job that every once in awhile I spotlight someone who does something fantastic. Recently, I gave kudos to Oprah Winfrey for starting a school in South Africa.
