Do Your Books Take A Beating?

Story time can go one of three ways in our house: 1) Our daughter sits nicely and listens, sometimes helping turn the pages; 2) Our daughter has no interest in reading books and squirms until we give up; or 3) Our daughter does everything she can to rip the books out of our hands. Out of the seemingly thousands of books our daughter received as gifts when she was born, she did not receive any cloth or plastic books. Every book we own is cardboard or paper. This is fine and dandy when my husband or I are holding the … Continue reading

My Favorite Baby Books: In My House

Exposing a baby to books and reading will set her on a wonderful path in life. Even the youngest babies enjoy being read. They love to hear mom, dad or a special caregiver’s voice, and babies do pick up a lot from being read to, from the cadence and sounds of language to actual vocabulary. The thing about development is the fact that the numbers are based on an average which means you add them all together and divide by the number of sums you added – this gives you … Continue reading

Developing a Taste for Literature

There’s nothing like handing a book to a toddler and watching them literally tear through the pages to bring tears to the eyes. Common sense says that if you provide your toddler with something that makes a great sound like tearing paper – well, that’s exactly what they are going to do. But don’t despair, you can still engage your toddler with books galore – you just have to approach it from their level. Board Books Are Best Cardboard or board books are virtually indestructible.
