Infants: The Hottest New Market

We all know that Disney will market to absolutely anyone it thinks it can get to buy its merchandise. We also know that Disney will pursue its advertising targets till the ends of the earth, producing any conceivable product (and some hitherto inconceivable) to ridiculous and often extreme ends. So really, Disney ought not to surprise anyone with whatever new marketing schemes it rolls out. Despite all of that, I just can’t help it; Disney’s got my eyebrows raised with this one. What’s the Mouse House’s latest marketing target? Infants. Pushing products towards the just-out-of-the-womb isn’t entirely new territory for … Continue reading

Baby Einstein The ABCs of Art – Julie Aigner-Clark

My own children were too old by the time the Baby Einstein products came on the market. I’ve never actually seen one of their videos. Today at the library, the Baby Einstein ABCs of Art caught my eye. The cover shows a blue goat with a pallet, and Pablo Picasso’s picture Young Boy with Dog. I found out that the art loving goat is named Van Goat. Inside the book, each double page spread shows a letter of the alphabet in upper and lower case. On the other side of the page are paintings. One page reads “H is for … Continue reading

Disney Recalls: “Cars” Backpacks, Baby Einstein Blocks and Cookies

Disney has recently initiated recalls on three products that Disney fans and visitors should know about. “Cars” Backpacks, made in China and sold at Target department stores from February through September of this year for $13 each are being recalled for the magnetic game pieces in them. The magnetic pieces are not child safe and, if swallowed, could lead to blood poisoning and even death. If you’ve purchased one of these backpacks, please be sure young children do not have access to the magnetic pieces and return the backpack to your nearest Target store. Baby Einstein Discover and Play Color … Continue reading

Disney Stores Recall Baby Einstein Pajamas

As the headline says, Disney Stores North America and the Consumer Product Safety Commission have put into effect a recall for Baby Einstein pajamas. The pajamas are the ones that utilize the baby duck and caterpillar designs. The recall was announced yesterday, April 24th because the pajamas present a risk of burn injury to small children. While no injuries have been reported, tests indicate that the pajamas do not meet a children’s flammability standard. Sales figures indicate that about 200 of these footed pajamas were sold between April and May of last year. If you’re wondering whether you purchased these … Continue reading

A Little “Hump-Day” Inspiration

I was watching the President’s State of the Union Address a few moments ago and was thrilled when he invited Julie Aigner-Clark of Colorado to stand for applause. The name Julie Aigner-Clark may not ring a bell to you, but if you are the mother of preschoolers (or even young elementary students) I’ll bet you’ve heard of Baby Einstein before. I’ll never forget the first time I saw a Baby Einstein video. One of my girlfriends gave it to me when my daughter was teething. My baby was mesmerized the moment she saw the puppets and toys dance across the … Continue reading

Baby’s Favorite Places: First Words — Around Town

The Baby Einstein Company has a new DVD in town called “Baby’s Favorite Places: First Words — Around Town.” This new video features baby’s first words around the neighborhood and around the town. This is the second Baby Einstein video to feature the words in sign language; the first was “Baby Wordsworth: First Words — Around the House.” As in “Baby Wordsworth,” Academy Award Winning actress Marlee Matlin introduces the sign language for the word as a picture of the object is shown next to her. Each word is spoken as well. At the end of each segment, a child … Continue reading

World Animals

Another great DVD from The Baby Einstein Company is “World Animals.” This DVD is another introduction to animals. Unlike the “Neighborhood Animals” DVD, this video teaches your child about some of the animals that live in the jungle, in the ocean, and on the savannah. Hosted by Jane the monkey, “World Animals” is a vivid introduction to animals around the world. Animals in the Jungle The jungle animals feature in this video are monkeys, tropical birds, and tigers. Tigers are shown running through the jungle and playing with each other. Beautiful blue macaws fly through the air as long-beaked toucans … Continue reading

The Baby Einstein Company has created many fun ways for our children to learn about the world around them. With their selection of videos, CD’s, books, and toys, this company is an educational wonder! One of the videos that they have created is called “Baby Neptune: Discovering Water.” This video teaches your child all about the wonders of water and even some of the animals they might find in water. The host of “Baby Neptune” is a turtle with a mask and snorkel. He appears all throughout the video, helping to introduce each segment. He plays with the duck and … Continue reading

Baby Einstein’s Best Books

Those of you who have read my previous blogs know that I am a big fan of The Baby Einstein Company and its products. Well, I usually blab on and on about all of the wonderful videos. Here you will find a small change of pace. Of course there are many books from The Baby Einstein Company, but there are three books that my daughter has which she absolutely adores: “What Does Violet See? Raindrops and Puddles,” “Windows to Color,” and “Mirror Me! A Mirror Book.” All three books were written by Julie Aigner-Clark, the founder of The Baby Einstein … Continue reading

Language Nursery

The Baby Einstein Company is famous for its award-winning children’s media. Another video which fits into this category is their “Language Nursery” video. “Language Nursery” introduces your child to the sounds of six languages in addition to English. With an array of colorful images and soft music in the background, this video will be captivating for your child. Seven different languages are used in this video, including English. Japanese, Hebrew, French, Spanish, German, and Russian are the other six languages included. “Language Nursery” introduces counting, the alphabet, and some other words that to me were unrecognizable. In fact, sometimes I … Continue reading
