Yoga Benefits for Achieving Goals

People often don’t think of yoga as a tool for achieving goals. However, the practice of yoga has benefits for realizing the goals you have set in your life. The awareness gained in yoga class extends beyond the mat. With this heightened awareness, you are more likely to notice opportunities as they present themselves and less likely to let them pass you by. Often, vague goals are set or goals are not properly defined. Any school of thought on goal setting says having a plan to accomplish goals is essential for realizing them. Yoga can help by increasing your focus … Continue reading

My Day on the World Stage

In 1993 the opportunity arrived for me to shut up or put up. There was a woman by the name, or rather using the name, of Deborah Laake. She’d written a book called “Secret Ceremonies: Diary of a Mormon Wife” – a work of pure and sad delusion. This poor woman, if she told the complete truth, was at the mercy of a father who took unrighteous dominion to new levels. Whatever the perceived truth, she became extremely disenchanted with the church and proceeded to betray every covenant she’d half-heartedly made with the Lord. Where do I come in? Well, … Continue reading

New York Auto Insurance Fraud Ring Shut Down

A federal investigation has resulted in the dismantling of an auto insurance fraud ring that was working in New York. This group managed to scam insurance companies out of $279 million dollars, by filing bogus claims. They were able to do this by taking advantage of New York’s no-fault auto insurance. Some states have what is called no-fault auto insurance. Florida and New York are two of the states that do. The majority of states do not use this particular type of car insurance. No-fault auto insurance is a personal, (or individual), policy that functions somewhat differently than a typical … Continue reading

Pets and the Special Needs Child

When you have a child with a special need, the thought of having an animal to take care of in addition to all of the other work you do can seem like an overwhelming hassle that isn’t worth it. However, children with special needs can benefit in numerous ways from having a pet to bond with and play with. Having a pet teaches every child the importance of responsibility. Your child will learn quickly that the pet needs to be fed, cleaned and cared for. If your child can physically participate in those responsibilities, she should be allowed to. The … Continue reading

Do We Spend Too Much on the Iraq War?

No doubt, Iraq is a hot topic right now. With more than half of the country wanting us to pull out yesterday it seems, well wrong, that congress could pass a bill of that magnitude when so many voters are against the Iraq war. What the Bill Does The bill provides expanded benefits for military veterans as well as providing monies for college tuition for military veterans. It also provides $2.7 million dollars in flood relief to help victims of the recent flooding in the mid-west. The spending will bring the grand total to $650 million that the U.S. Government … Continue reading

Designing a House with Pets in Mind

A while back I was watching a show on HGTV in the waiting area of the Nissan dealership while Nissy’s oil got changed. I don’t remember the name of the show, but it was one of those where they feature people’s homes for one reason or another. Usually very fancy houses with lots of neat upgrades I can only dream about. Cold Rooms Must Mean a Cold Heart The episode showcased a lady’s home that, while very pretty, also struck me to match its owner’s personality: cold and sterile. The floors were entirely hard surfaces, save for maybe her bedroom. … Continue reading

Do You Prevent Your Own Success?

A friend of mine gave me a great book recently. In April, I was going to England for a week and I’m always desperate for good reading material on the plane. We’ve got an odd collection of books around here, but I love books that have buried wisdom in them. This book is called “How to Be Totally Miserable.” Our doubts are traitors, And make us lose the good we oft might win, by fearing to attempt. – William Shakespeare Misery Loves Company Too often we sabotage our own success whether in life, in school or in our fitness choices. … Continue reading

Shooting in Black-and-White

One of my most cherished pictures of my daughter is a black-and-white shot taken when she was 6 months old. I had a professional photographer come in shortly after my daughter started to show interest in crawling. The prized picture features my daughter on her tummy looking straight into the camera with both eyebrows arched perfectly in little peaks. It is pure and genuine and the fact that it was captured in black-and-white further enhances the simplicity of the shot. Think about your favorite black-and-white photograph. It could be one taken of your grandparents decades ago or a winter landscape … Continue reading
