Deliciously Refreshing Watermelon Cake

Yep–you read that right. Here is a recipe for watermelon cake with actual seedless watermelon in it. I thought this would be a great crowd pleaser for the kids but I have to admit my kids were not so into it. It is a little unusual and is better suited towards an adult gathering where the adults have more sophisticated taste buds. It is still delicious. . .but just different then what you’d normally expect out of a cake. This is a great dessert for an outdoor grilled meal or for a spring themed party. For the cake you will … Continue reading

Product Review: Betty Crocker Bake‘n Fill

I received the “as seen on TV” Betty Crocker Bake’n Fill four-piece bake set for Mother’s Day, but I had not tested it. Well, today is my birthday (and I’m OLD, so I don’t really want to talk about that!). My kids were very excited about making me a birthday cake and of course, about being the first ones to try out the bake set (with just a little supervision). It’s pretty cool. The set includes: One round layer pan One dome shaped insert One tall base pan One dome shaped pan *NOTE: After looking up the website, it appears … Continue reading

Teddy Bear Cake

One of my daughters just loves teddy bears. She has quite a collection ranging from stuffed teddy bears to magnets, picture frames, ceramics, and even blown glass. If it looks like a teddy bear or has teddy bears on it, she adores it. One year for her birthday I decided I was going to order a teddy bear cake. I searched everywhere but just couldn’t find anything that great. None of the offerings were shaped like bears, and the ones that were decorated with teddy bears, just weren’t that cute. So, I decided to make my own teddy bear cake. … Continue reading

Top Chef Episode 8: Betty Crocker Rocks

Lesson learned in this week’s Top Chef episode: Even top chefs use cake mix. The contestants this week were told they had to cater a wedding for 100 people, including the cake – and the wedding was 16 hours away. They also had to shop at an all-night grocery store in one hour and settle for ingredients on hand like sub-par salmon. The whole task was completely unfair, but the chefs did the best they could, especially considering they had to pull an all-nighter. The one dish there were no complaints about? The cake (except that one guest found an … Continue reading
