Fitness Journal – Steady As She Goes

It’s a holiday today and we’re heading out as a group to spend the afternoon together. First and foremost, hit the treadmill for a 15 minute mile. That’s right, we’re doing a 15 minute mile this morning. Primarily, I’m concerned with the heavy duty workout I did last night trying to curb my own frustration. Because I didn’t want to over train, I set the timer on the stopwatch for 15 minutes and poured it on. I kept the pace comfortable and monitored my heart rate. I wanted to do my best without overdoing it. I also wanted to see … Continue reading

I love writing the weeks in review, some weeks I like writing them more than others and this month has definitely been falling more in the less than the more category. Bike Riding – How to Get the Training Wheels Off

Summer time is here and this year, it will be a momentous summer because we’ll be working diligently with our daughter to shed her training wheels, master her swimming lessons and so much more. I, myself, was a daredevil. I shed my training wheels two days after I got my bike. My motivation lay more in the fact that I broke the training wheels … Continue reading

Bike Riding for Exercise and Pleasure

My husband picked it up from the shop on Saturday. The brakes are primed, the chain is clean and reset and the wheels are aligned correctly. I was excited to have the bike sitting here in my garage. Stomach Flu and Plans My daughter came down with a bout of stomach flu late on Friday and she spent most of … Continue reading

Dear Heather…Can you be frugal & still get a good workout?

Dear Heather, Maybe I should have sent this to the frugal blog, but I had a question about being frugal and being fit at the same time. The simple fact is I don’t have a lot of extra money. I have three kids and I’m a single parent. My ex helps me out with child support, but I use that money to take care of the kids and keep extra in the bank if they need something. I try to limit my spending to necessities only with the occasional splurge here and there. A couple of years ago, I tried … Continue reading

Time to Take Off the Training Wheels?

At what age are most children ready to learn to ride a bike? The age varies and has more to do with balance and coordination than age, itself. Children must be able to coordinate balancing, steering, pedaling and braking all at the same time. Some children can master bike riding without training as young as four years old, others are upwards of 9 years old before they can even begin to master this complex skill set. The average age is about 6 years old. How can parents help teach balance? Many parents rely on training wheels to do what they … Continue reading
