Simple Spring Recipes

Despite the snowstorm that is headed straight for my city I’ve decided to move forward with my spring menu planning. I’m giving classic winter recipes, such as stews, soups, and casseroles a rest for a while, and am pulling out lighter recipes that feature fresh fruit and vegetables. I’m also getting ready to grill again, so I’m collecting recipes that allow me to fire up the BBQ. Here are some simple dishes you can add to your spring menu: STRAWBERRY SALAD Ingredients for Dressing: 1 cup extra-virgin olive oil 3/4 cup sugar 1/2 cup red wine vinegar 2 cloves garlic, … Continue reading

Simple Soup Recipes

Soup’s versatility makes it one of my all-time favorite dishes. It doesn’t take a ton of skill or time to whip up a big pot of hearty homemade soup. Try these portable meals that are great for families … Continue reading

Ways to Liven Up Leftovers

The calendar (and the thermometer) still says it’s summer, but for many families the new school year has already started. I try to minimize the juggling act by making double duty recipes. Meaning I cook more of a certain ingredient (or ingredients) to use two nights in a row. For … Continue reading

Cultural Smorgasbord—-Mexican Rib Eye Steaks and German Brats with a Twist

I grew up in Hawaii, which is well known for its cultural diversity and equally varied cuisines. In the Aloha State it’s not unusual to have a breakfast of Japanese rice, Portuguese sausage and Hawaiian sweetbread; lunch of Filipino Chicken Adobo and Chinese noodles; and dinner consisting of Italian pasta and kalbi (Korean short ribs). As we countdown to Independence Day I thought it would be appropriate to salute our nation’s wonderfully rich cuisine with the following ethnic dishes that can be easily grilled up for a classic Fourth of July picnic. The first recipe features an All-American rib eye … Continue reading
