We Got Ambushed

My husband and I have been called for a dinner at his parents’ house; this is odd as we only get invites to birthdays etc. and there is no birthday that we know of. We agree to go because we want to work towards peace in the family. Our time out is over and we still want to talk about things with them that still bother us so this seemed like a great chance to do that. We pull up to his parents’ home and notice that his brother and sisters cars are both in front of the house so … Continue reading

Easter Basket Ambush

My mother-in-law was so sweet and sent the kids Easter baskets that arrived today. Who sends a one-year-old candy? It is just staring at me, as if to say, “I dare you.” I usually give up sweets for Lent, but not this year. I don’t have that extra excuse to keep me strong and withstand the urge to eat the goodies. I broke into the sour cherry gummies. Okay, I actually finished them off. What is wrong with me? I usually have more self-control. Maybe it is the rain that has not let up for the past two days. Yes, … Continue reading

Lauren Bush and the FEED Projects

I blogged about green models the other day, but I intentionally skipped over Lauren Bush. Lauren, the granddaughter of former President George H. W. Bush and the niece of former President George W. Bush, is both a model and fashion designer. As you might imagine, Lauren was born in Texas. She graduated from The Kindaid School in Houston then studied fashion design at Parsons The New School for Design and Central Saint Martins College of Art and Design. In 2006, she graduated from Princeton University with an Anthropology degree. Although only 5’7” (short in Model Land), Lauren signed with the … Continue reading

Nursing Students Ambush Men at Barbershops

Shave and a haircut… and a blood pressure check? Across the United States, nursing students are hitting the barbershops to encourage men’s health. One specific target: heart health among black men. High blood pressure is sometimes called the silent killer — it has few to no outward symptoms but can increase a person’s chance of developing heart disease or having a heart attack or stroke. For various reasons, black Americans have a higher chance of developing high blood pressure than white Americans. So nursing programs (in partnership with nonprofits and other organizations) are making an effort to get out there … Continue reading

$5 Million Dollars Raised for Australian Bushfire Victims

The rain poured down in Melbourne, Australia, but it didn’t deter the crowds from attending the concert to raise money for the bushfires that have recently devastated the state of Victoria in south-eastern Australia. While over 200 people died in the bushfires, over 80, 000 people attended the concert in Melbourne, with a sister concert also celebrated in Sydney this weekend. While the news is generally full of unpleasant natural events and the even less pleasant acts of man, today’s headlines focus more on the good will of mankind where people come together to support other in financial and psychological … Continue reading

Meghan McCain Follows in Jenna Bush’s Footsteps

Her father has yet to secure the job presently held by George W. Bush (though he’s gunning for it), but that’s not stopping Meghan McCain from trying to emulate current first daughter Jenna Bush. Meghan McCain, the daughter of Republican presidential candidate Senator John McCain just announced that like Jenna Bush she is author material and will be writing a children’s book. “I am truly excited about the opportunity to write a children’s book about my father, who is not only a fantastic dad, but also a great American,” the 23-year-old said in a statement earlier this week. Meghan McCain’s … Continue reading

Forsythia Bushes

There are few things that herald in spring like the forsythia bush. Its bright yellow flowers announce to the world that warmer temperatures are here and on their way. What a nice way to wake up to spring. And that is just what forsythia does. One day, the landscape is still gray and brown, and the next day, it shows a profusion of bright color. Forsythia bushes have many uses in a landscape. Very often, they are used to mark property borders. In the spring, summer and fall, forsythia bushes can be used as a privacy fence, especially when the … Continue reading

Jenna Bush Sets a Wedding Date and Britney Tries to get Pregnant-—AGAIN

It’s not easy putting together a wedding in less than four months, but I have a feeling Jenna Bush won’t have a problem pulling it off. Ah, the perks of being the first daughter. While it hasn’t been officially confirmed by the White House, published reports say the 26-year-old twin daughter of President Bush will marry her fiancé Henry Hager on May 10th in Texas. So much for a White House wedding… According to sources, Jenna Bush is planning a small wedding to be held at the president’s ranch in Crawford, Texas. By choosing the gated, 1,600-acre Prairie Chapel ranch, … Continue reading

Dr. Phil Defends Britney Ambush

Two days after being accused of ambushing Britney Spears as she prepared to leave her involuntary lockdown at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center, Dr. Phil McGraw hightailed it over to CBS’s “The Early Show” this morning to defend his actions. His interview just aired and frankly I was unimpressed. Despite his argument that the only reason he went to see the troubled pop star was because her parents begged him to, I still maintain the TV shrink smelled fresh meat and went in for the… TV intervention. For those of you who don’t keep tabs on the good doc, McGraw announced Saturday … Continue reading
