Congratulations! Your baby is turning one and hitting a very big milestone. Will you have a huge party with lots of family and friends, or a small, quiet celebration? Whatever your plans, you can take advantage of a little-known fact to get a free birthday cake. The free birthday cake is as close as your favorite grocery store. Most grocery stores will actually give away an entire birthday cake … Continue reading

My Chocolate Raspberry Cake

This is a mellow chocolate cake your whole family will love. You can make it fancy by cooking it in round cake pans and decorating it, or keep it simple by baking it in a 13×9 inch rectangular pan. Put some icing on the top and you’re good to go. This cake is delicious room temperature or cold (I like my cake frosted and straight from the fridge). Any way you like it, cake is comfort food at its finest—and hey, this one’s homemade! Oh, and if you’re watching your waistline, consider ditching the frosting all together–sprinkle some powdered sugar … Continue reading

An Apple A Day…

Did you go apple picking this year? Our family takes an annual ride out to a local apple orchard, not because we can’t get enough of the sweet (or tart) fruit, but because my 2-year-old delights in yanking apples from their branches and toting them around in a little bag. The only problem is we never leave with just her little bag. We end up getting at least a bushel of mixed apples (from Honeycrisp to Granny Smith) and then I am faced with the challenge of creating dishes with them that the whole family will eat (see two of … Continue reading

You can just buy one from Wal-mart – Choose a solid color that is not gender specific, so if you have boy and girl parties, they can be used for either. Yellow, green, or red … Continue reading

Fireman Birthday Party

When my son was four years old he wanted to be a fireman. So of course he wanted a fireman birthday. I had just had a baby three weeks earlier so I wanted to make the party as easy as possible. It didn’t take much effort and the party was a great success. Invitations I found a clipart of a Dalmatian dog wearing a fireman’s hat. I copied it on to cardstock and then colored the fireman’s hat red. I also printed the party information. Decorations I decorated for the birthday party with red, yellow, and orange balloons and streamers. … Continue reading

I shall refrain until tomorrow, but I am sure it is going to be so delicious; it will not last for very long around this house. For this recipe, you will need milk, sour cream, sugar, all purpose baking mix (I prefer Bisquick), one box of JELL-O vanilla instant pudding and pie filling, Cool Whip, and strawberries. To prep for this recipe, wash and slice enough strawberries to have 4 cups worth … Continue reading
