Tales from the Holiday Kids’ Table

With Thanksgiving just a week away many parents are finalizing their holiday menus, decorating the house, and working on the all-important Turkey Day seating chart. A good hostess knows it’s all about the seating. After all, who wants World War III to break out between eccentric Aunt Marcie and conservative Uncle Mort as the green bean casserole is being passed? And they’re adults (supposedly). So why is it that whenever the holidays roll around kids constantly beg to sit at the grown up’s table? And at what age do you honor their wishes? For as long as I can remember … Continue reading

Inexpensive Ways To Set A Festive Holiday Kids’ Table

Friday is our playgroup’s annual Christmas/Holiday potluck luncheon. Being that I am not the world’s greatest cook I volunteered to help decorate the kids table. Well, one of them. We have 12 kids under the age of four dining on two tables. I’ve teamed up with another playgroup mom to make simple, inexpensive decorations and place settings that can easily be adapted to your own holiday kids’ table. Here’s what we are planning: Baking Sheet Placemats. I’m not talking Emeril quality cookware–I got a dozen standard baking sheets at the dollar store for less than $15. Decorating Tips For The Children’s Thanksgiving Table

Movies and TV (along with other forms of the media) tend to depict the children’s eating table as a prison of sorts. How many times have you heard of someone being “banished” to the children’s table? During the holidays, and especially Thanksgiving, many families set up a smaller table for children to eat off of. In most homes the “main” table is given top billing and where most people concentrate their decorating efforts. But just because Tom the turkey isn’t going to be carved on the children’s table doesn’t mean you should treat it like chopped liver. Here are some … Continue reading

Holidays: The Kids’ Table

When you were growing up, were there separate tables set aside for children and adults during the holidays? Did you sit at the kids’ table each year, eagerly anticipating when the time would come that you were big enough to join the grown up table? Hopefully, you have made it by now. I didn’t think I’d ever get there. It seemed that every year kids had to be older to join the land of adults. I could just imagine how much better it must be at the glorious grown up table. When I finally got there, it wasn’t such a … Continue reading

Ovulation Tracking and Special Ring Tones for Sex

You might think this is a little crazy, but I think it’s at the least an interesting idea. A Japanese designer has created a mobile phone that issues a specific ring tone to alert couples when the optimum time to try to conceive approaches. Isn’t technology something? You program the phone with pertinent information regarding your cycle, and it will send you an alert just before the time when you should be most fertile. Who would have imagined? I mean, computers and cell phones are directly or indirectly involved in nearly every other aspect of our lives, so why not … Continue reading
