Green Resolutions – Part 1

The New Year is upon us. If you are like most people, you have probably made a few New Year’s resolutions. I know how those well-intended resolutions usually go – I make a resolution to diet every year and end up breaking it eventually. Even so, there are a few green resolutions that I am going to try to keep this year. One it to use the reusable shopping bags. I have already purchased them, but I usually forget to put them in the car because I am in a rush to get to the store. Then, I get to … Continue reading

Catalog Gifts for Cats and the People Who Love Them

Yesterday I listed some gifts for dogs and the people who love from a couple different catalogs. Today I’m going to do the same things for cat people. From Femail Creations Catffeinated Mug: If you’ve got any cat lovers who also happen to be coffee lovers on your holiday shopping list, they might get a big jolt out of this cup. $14. You Can’t Own a Cat decoration: This caught my eye because it looks like something from times gone by. (Like something from the turn of the 20th century perhaps.) But then I looked closer and saw the quote: … Continue reading

In the Company of Dogs Early Holiday 2008 Catalog

In an effort to be more environmentally conscious this year, I opted out of a receiving a lot of my beloved catalogs in the mail. One I could not bear to go without, though, was In the Company of Dogs. I can’t afford hardly anything in it, but oh how I love browsing through it! Yesterday the Early Holiday 2008 catalog arrived. The cover touted over 100 new items. I didn’t pay much mind to that at first…until I realized I was earmarking just about every page. What kind of cool things caught my eye? Glad you asked. Let me … Continue reading

Shopping the Catalogs: More Romantic Rings

Yesterday I listed a few romantic rings that have caught my eye as I’ve been shopping the catalogs this holiday season. The list was getting a bit long, so I broke it up. Here’s the rest of my picks: From The Danbury Mint Diamond Rapture Ring: Yep, rapture’s an apt name to describe the response someone might give when receiving this ring. Royal Sapphire Ring: With a kind of a crown design to it, it certainly is royally regal. Diamond Swirl Ring: Simple, elegant, and stately. Diamond Promise Ring: Both the name and the design caught my attention. (And made … Continue reading

Shopping the Catalogs: Romantic Rings

I’m not a big jewelry wearer, but I’d like to be. (My problem is I’m not the most graceful person. I usually break or lose it. It’s amazing that, other than one bent prong, in the 12 plus years I’ve had my diamond ring I haven’t managed to destroy it yet.) However, while I’ve been shopping the catalogs for gifts to give, I’ve also been admiring some things my alter ego (the one who knows how to wear jewelry without abusing it) would like. In particular, rings. Below is a list of the ones that caught my eye and stole … Continue reading

Shopping the Catalogs: Personalized Pet Ornaments

Photo by John Boyer Do you hang ornaments on your tree for the animals in your life? (Or maybe you’re like my friend Karen who gives her dog Tucker a little tree of his own –all with his ornaments on it.) Or maybe you’re like me and like to give personalized ornaments to pet parents for presents? Below is a list of the cutest catalog offerings for personalized pet ornaments that I found this season. The usual suspects, like dogs and cats, are a given, but I even found one for horse lovers so I included it too. From Miles … Continue reading

Shopping the Catalogs: Pet Lovers Paradise

‘Tis the season when catalogs clutter our mailboxes. Unlike some people who immediately toss them, I shop them. I never know what I might find, and this year I found a ton of cool stuff for pet and animal lovers and owners as well as for pets themselves. I don’t know if it’s because I’m paying more attention this year or if the catalog companies have caught on to our passion for pets. Whatever it is, it does seem like every catalog this year offered a bunch more pet products than ever before. Whether you’re a dog person, cat person, … Continue reading

Do Catalogs Still Work?

About fifteen years ago, it seemed it was all about the mail-order catalog. Many people started out in home-based mail order businesses that were focused on catalogs that were shipped out to prospects and customers. With the onset and obvious popularity of the internet, more and more catalogs have given way to web sites and online ordering. Is it still worth it to use catalogs for marketing and sales? Judging by my mail box on a weekly basis—there must be some reason for companies to continue to print and distribute catalogs. However, I don’t get the plethora of small and … Continue reading

Tame the Catalog Clutter (1)

Once october hits, it seems that we are bombarded by catalogs. It is hard not to resist the thick colorful books, isn’t it. And they can quickly pile up into clutter that spills over end tables, coffee tables, dining room tables, kitchen counters, desks, chairs and even sofas. It isn’t easy to get rid of them, once they have actually entered the home. There are a million reasons these catgalogs go from junk mail to part of the family. Someone went to the trouble to send them to us, they are mail, they have lots of nice stuff in them, … Continue reading

Spice It Up With Penzeys

“Once you get a spice in your home, you have it forever. Women never throw out spices. The Egyptians were buried with their spices. I know which one I’m taking with me when I go.” ~Erma Bombeck I don’t know which spice Erma Bombeck planned on taking with her to the grave, but if I could be buried with my stock of Penzeys Spices I know I’d be cooking it up right in my afterlife. A few years back when my husband and I lived in Jacksonville, Florida my sister came to visit. We were driving through San Marco when … Continue reading
