Celebrating Year 12: You and Me, So Happy Wii Be

Yesterday Wayne and I celebrated our 12th wedding anniversary. Hard to believe that twelve years ago, in a little church in Denver, we exchanged I Dos. In some respects it feels like just yesterday, in others it seems so much longer than that. (But in a good way.) Like many little girls, I had always dreamed of being married. I had never dreamed of a church wedding, though. I had never really dreamt about the ceremony at all, save for wearing a beautiful gown and standing at an altar with my groom looking dreamily into each other’s eyes. (Goes back … Continue reading

How Wii Are Celebrating Pleasure Your Mate Month (Among Other Things)

In addition to Pleasure Your Mate Month, the Team Pryor household has other super September celebrations underway. Wayne’s birthday on Friday basically kicked off the fiesta. My birthday comes next, exactly one week after Wayne’s. Two days after that we celebrate our wedding anniversary. Four days after that is my dad’s birthday. Three days later, on the 23rd, the festivities conclude with Murph’s birthday. Phew! What a month. Buying presents for my dad and Murph is easy. Exchanging gifts between Wayne and myself? Well, that’s never easy. And complicating it even more than usual this year is our impending move. … Continue reading

Feel the Love Day: How I’m Celebrating

September 7th is Feel the Love Day. It also happens to be my husband’s birthday. Naturally Wayne’s important to me and a birthday is prime time for making him feel loved. But this year I’m actually under the gun to show the love. Last year I didn’t do very good when it came to his birthday. He definitely wasn’t feeling the love. I don’t exactly remember why I was less than stellar last year when it came to celebrating Wayne’s birthday, but I remember I was. And what made it worse was Wayne has the worst luck when it comes … Continue reading

Finding Ways to Mark the Passing Time

Kids grow up. There doesn’t seem to be much we can do about that, or maybe we do so much about that process of “growing up” as parents that it just seems so normal and obvious. I do think in our culture, however, we’ve lost sight of the importance of taking time out to acknowledge developmental and maturity leaps and to mark that passing of time and phases with any sort of ritual. I think we need to find ways of acknowledging and celebrating milestones and changes. Now, I should probably admit to you that my kids tease me, saying … Continue reading

It’s Elvis Week!

Okay, if you are not an Elvis fan, you may not be aware of the fact that it is Elvis Week! Yes, only the King of Rock-n-Roll would be allowed not just a day, but a whole week for fans to celebrate his greatness. Being a native Memphian, I have to admit that I have been to several Elvis Week events in the past. If you have never been to Graceland during Elvis Week, it is certainly an experience. First off, there are many people from around the world that converge on Memphis during this time. If you are wondering … Continue reading

Businesses Need Celebrations Too

There is a reason corporations and businesses celebrate grand openings and anniversaries. Yes, part of it has to do with generating sales and boosting revenue, but part of it is that celebrations boost moral and prove very good public relations activities. Even a little home-based business can benefit from incorporating a few celebrations throughout the year. The anniversary of when you started your business is a great event to celebrate. It is inspiring to commemorate the years as you build your business and share it with the customers and clients who helped you get there. You can offer a special … Continue reading

Making Birthdays Special

In a few short weeks my baby will turn six. I have to admit I haven’t even started planning anything resembling a birthday party. With all the frenzy of our impending move back to New Orleans I haven’t really had the time. Not to mention his birthday falls not only on a Sunday but the Sunday after Thanksgiving. If we have a party it will have to take place on either Friday or Saturday. The other problem is having to decide if I should invite all the kids from his class or just his “best friends”. I know I need … Continue reading

15 Reasons To Celebrate November

This month we celebrate Thanksgiving, a time to reflect on all those little things that we are thankful for. For me, it’s a time to be thankful for the gift of motherhood as my baby reaches his 6th birthday this month. I can’t believe how the time is flying by. There are many other reasons to be thankful this month, besides that big old turkey dinner you‘re having at the end of the month. Here are fifteen of my favorite reasons to celebrate November. (1) In November 1782, the first aeronautical experiments were conducted by Joseph and Jacques Monfgolfier in … Continue reading

Husbands & Father’s Day

Father’s Day is rapidly approaching and it’s a day to celebrate having dad around. I didn’t grow up with a father so the first years that I have ever celebrated Father’s Day began when I was pregnant and then of course after our daughter was born. My husband’s relationship with his father was intensely valuable to him and his relationship with his daughter is even more valuable to him now. Different Ways to Celebrate For Father’s Day, we’ve done different kinds of gifts over the years from finger paintings my daughter has made to favored books, ties, robes and more. … Continue reading
