Michael Jackson Auction Brings in Big Bucks

If you saw the American Music Awards the other night, you know Michael Jackson is still wildly popular, perhaps more so since his recently death several months ago. He lost the Artist of the Year award to Taylor Swift, but he won Pop/Rock Favorite Male Artist, Pop/Rock Favorite Album (Number Ones), Soul/R&B Favorite Male Artist, and Soul/R&B Favorite Album (Number Ones). The day before the AMAs, some Jackson fans scored big by purchasing some of his personal possessions at an auction. Family members, associates, and fans contacted Julien’s Auctions about selling the merchandise. The auction, held at Hard Rock Café … Continue reading

How to Get a Piece of Bob Hope

How much would you pay for an autographed photo of Lucille Ball with some teeth blackened out or a money clip from Jack Benny? Would you shell out more if you knew the items once belonged to the legendary Bob Hope? The late comedian’s family sure hopes so. Bob Hope’s relatives are selling more than 800 of the funnyman’s prized possessions at a mid-October charity auction in Los Angeles. “Dad was a pack rat,” daughter Linda Hope recently told reporters. “He loved to collect things.” She isn’t kidding. The list of auction items left behind by the actor, who died … Continue reading

Up for a Celebrity Hand-Me-Down?

How would you like to strap on a diaper bag worn by hunky Matt Damon? Perhaps you would prefer to strap your child into the same high chair Julianne Moore’s daughter ate her mom’s famous meatloaf in? You’ll get your chance beginning Tuesday when celebrity baby hand-me-downs go up for auction on eBay. A slew of famous parents dug deep to donate items their own children used to help kids in need. Get a Piece of Britney

Why not? Everyone else is… or has… While I realize there are many of you who would rather not even see the name Britney Spears let alone have it attached to something you wear, know this: it’s helping the environment. Yes, you can help save the planet by shelling out a few bucks to own clothing items worn by the pop star during her recent guest appearance on CBS’ “How I Met Your Mother.” About a half dozen items of clothing (how many scenes does she have anyway) will be auctioned off to benefit the Natural Resources Defense Council. The … Continue reading

Pop Culture Milestones: Cyborg Makes History and Bono Marries

I’ve said it before and I will say it again—-I am continually shocked by how much people are willing to shell out for pop culture memorabilia. Yet another auction record was broken last week when a cyborg skeleton from “Terminator 2: Judgment Day” brought in nearly $500,000 during a sale of Hollywood memorabilia. According to auction officials, the T-800 Endoskeleton used in the 1991 film brought in $488,750. Meanwhile, a full-scale tyrannosaurus rex head from “Jurassic Park” was the second priciest item of the day, raking in a cool $126,500. Other “Terminator” props brought in five and six digit figures … Continue reading

Celebrity Updates—Ozzy’s Suce$$ful Garage Sale

In a previous blog I told you that Ozzy Osbourne was cleaning house. Like many stars before them, the rocker and his wife Sharon put hundreds of items up for bid in an online auction. But, no one could have predicted (auction experts included) that the Osbourne family’s excessive would make history. According to Julien’s Auction House, which ran the charity sale over the weekend, heavy metal fans were outbidding serious art dealers who specialize in high–end auctions. Ozzy’s loyal metalheads snatched up items, including a coat with embroidered bats, sneakers with skulls on them and one-of-a-kind sculpture by a … Continue reading

Celebrity Updates—Cashing in on Rock ‘n’ Roll Memorabilia

Celebrity auctions intrigue me. Not so much because of the items that are up for sale (though it is interesting to see what celebs consider “safe” to part with), but what I find so astounding is how much some die-hard fans are willing to fork over for an item previously owned by someone they likely have never met. In a previous blog I previewed an auction Christie’s was running featuring rock ‘n’ roll memorabilia from some of the hottest bands of the 1960s and ’70s. Most of the items were non descript and unpretentious, such as used T-shirts, sweaters and … Continue reading

Being Part of Luther’s Legacy

If you are looking for unique holiday gifts to give friends or relatives who loved Luther Vandross I have good news for you. The legendary singer, who died in 2005 at 54, lived large and now his prized possessions are going on sale. Which means not only can you listen to the award-winning crooner in the confines of your own home, you now have the chance to wear one of his diamond watches while you do so. Diamond watches, Picasso charcoal drawings, mink coats, crystal vases, and about 1,000 other items previously owned by the singing superstar are going up … Continue reading

Baldwin Brother Wants You To Think Pink

October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month. In a previous blog I listed ways you can get involved in the fight to conquer this insidious disease. One way is to purchase any number of unique items designed specifically to raise money for breast cancer research. Today, I’m giving you another way to help support the cause and it involves a big name celebrity. Actor William “Billy” Baldwin is auctioning a day on the campaign trail with presidential hopeful John Edwards and a private falconry lesson with Robert Kennedy Jr. to raise funds to benefit The Carol M. Baldwin Breast Cancer Research … Continue reading
