Book Review: “Mistaken Identity”

Imagine for a moment losing your daughter in an automobile accident. You go through grieving for your child for about a month, only later to learn that she survived. That’s was one family’s experience. The other family is told that their child is the only one who survived a terrible crash and that she is in a coma. The parents spend about a month believing that their loved one will pull through, only to find out that once the child wakes up, she is not their daughter at all. And that there real daughter died in the accident. It is … Continue reading

Little House on the Prairie

Based on the series of books by Laura Ingalls Wilder, “Little House on the Prairie” was a hit television show from 1974 to 1983, and thanks to the wonders of syndication, is still airing today. I am a huge fan of the books and also enjoyed the show, although there are huge discrepancies between the two. I think you need to enjoy the show on its own and not worry about comparing it to the books. Melissa Gilbert plays our heroine, Laura. She grows up in a small Midwestern town called Walnut Grove, and is surrounded by her loving family. … Continue reading

Debt Busters: Two Mistakes that Everyone Makes

If you want to live a life that is as debt free as possible, avoid the following two mistakes. They are very common problems, or should I say ways of thinking, that lead to increased debt. Don’t get caught in these traps. The first mistake is to believe that money or things equal happiness, beauty, popularity, etc. Things are just thing. Now, we may all say that money doesn’t equal happiness as a philosophy, but just how much does that hold up when you are staring at ads for the latest high definition television, video game system, new car, shoes, … Continue reading

For the Last Time, Homeschoolers are Not Strictly Conservative Christian

Maybe this won’t be the last time that I state this, but it must be said. Homeschoolers are not strictly Conservative Christians. We are not blindly motivated to separate and cloister out kids from others in a blind effort to keep our kids innocent, and protect them from the heathens. Sure when homeschooling first became popular, that was the goal of many, but the vast majority of homeschoolers now come from every walk of like imaginable. Sure, at one time, about 15 years ago, most homeschoolers that you encountered were Conservative Christians, and most homeschooling was religion based. But, even … Continue reading

Should I Quit or Use Childcare?

The decision to quit a job or pay for childcare goes far beyond just finances. Deciding on the person who will care for your kids is an emotional one and whether a parent wants to work can go beyond just the need for money. Either way, it can be important to evaluate which would cost your family more – childcare or unemployment. Then, at least you can use that information as part of your decision making process. Typically childcare is more expensive for babies and toddlers. It begins to drop once children are preschool age and then even more when … Continue reading

Is the Second Divorce Easier Than the First?

There are many difficult things that we do in life that seemingly get easier each time that we do them. For example public speaking is usually a difficult and trying task the first time that it is done. However after several months of being in the public’s eye the speaking usually gets easier. In some cases, all it takes is proving to ourselves that we can do it and survive. After that some of the fear is taken out of the equation. I wonder if divorce is the same way? I have never been divorced. I have some friends that … Continue reading

GodTube and Other Christian Versions of Online Websites

Are you turned off by less than savory content on your favorite popular websites? Well, you may be surprised to know that the Christian community may just have a version of that same site out there on the Internet. YouTube is a great source of entertainment and sometimes education. You can find un-aired pilots of your favorite shows, cute kids spitting up spaghetti and dads lamenting about how tough it is to get kids to go to bed. Chances are that if there is a topic you can think of, there is also a video about it. But one thing … Continue reading
