What If I Mess Up?

In Relief Society this past Sunday, we had ward conference. I always love the opportunity to hear the Stake leaders come and speak to us. Our Stake President is 38 years old and has been the stake president for almost 10 years now. He has a great perspective on things, and is very inspiring. The Spirit is always strong when he speaks. He shared a story of teaching his daughter how to ride a bike last week. He spoke of how different she was from the three boys that they had taught how to ride bikes previous to her. The … Continue reading

Serving Others Despite A Busy Life

I have been thinking a lot lately about serving others. At this stage in my life, it feels impossible to reach outside the needs of my own little family that demands so much, to others that might be in need. However, I believe that the Lord expects so much more of each of us. In the book, Daughters in My Kingdom, there is a quote by George Albert Smith that states, “Our eternal happiness will be in proportion to the way that we devote ourselves to helping others.” When you really think about that statement, it is hard not to … Continue reading

New Website on Christ

The church has a new website entirely devoted to Jesus Christ. This website shares the testimonies of the apostles and prophets about the divinity of Christ and His mission on the earth. The site is full of beautiful paintings of Christ and his ministry on the Earth. It is a beautifully designed site. There are four sections on the website. The first is “Faith in Jesus Christ”. This section focuses on gaining a testimony of Christ. You can also see hymns that focus on Christ in this section. The second section is “His Life and Teachings.” This section focuses on … Continue reading

Primary Time: December 2007 Sharing Time Theme

The Sharing Time theme for December is “Jesus Christ once lived on earth and I have the faith that He will again.” The scripture for the month is Acts 1:11 “This same Jesus, which is taken up from you into heaven, shall so come in like manner as ye have seen him go into heaven.” There is not a specific song associated with the month, although the sharing times do have the children sing Christmas songs and songs about Jesus’ life. The theme is divided into four principles. The first principle focuses on prophets foretelling of the Savior coming to … Continue reading

General Conference: “Mom, Are We Christians?”

In his talk “Mom, Are We Christians?” Elder Gary J Coleman addresses on of the most common misconceptions of those who are of the LDS faith. Elder Coleman begins by speaking of his upbringing in another faith as a child. He grew up with the goal of someday entering the ministry. However when he went to college, he became acquainted with members of the church. He says: “When I was a university student, however, I became acquainted with the members and teachings of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, a Christian faith centered on the Savior. I began … Continue reading

All Things Remind Us of Christ

At our Stake Conference a week and a half ago, our stake president made some marvelous comments. One in particular stuck with me, and I paraphrase: “Everything we see should remind us of Christ.” I’ve been thinking about this ever since. How can all things remind us of Christ? 1. He created all nature – trees, mountains, stones, streams, stars, the sun, moon, water, dirt, and us. When we see all of these things, we can remember Him who created all of them, and that will keep our hearts and minds close to Him. 2. He put inspiration into the … Continue reading

Gospel Doctrine: Did Not Our Heart Burn?

Yesterday, we spoke somewhat concerning the scriptures that Christ cited as He walked with His disciples. Today, I would like to talk a bit about the result of those scriptures, and the testimony of the Holy Ghost. Following His resurrection, Jesus met two of His disciples on the road to Emmaus. They did not recognize Him, and so told Him of the crucifixion of their Master. They shared the report of the women who visited the sepulchre. He obviously saw that they were slow to believe the reports of these witnesses, for He called them “fools, and slow of heart … Continue reading

Primary Time: Sharing Time Theme “He Lives!”

The theme for sharing time this month is “My faith in Jesus Christ grows when I know He is my Savior and Redeemer.” This is a great theme for this month because it coincides with Easter. You should be able to reinforce this theme as you teach your children about Easter this month. This month the scripture to focus on is John 3:16. If you have older children you may want to encourage them to memorize the scripture. You should read it several times with your children and discuss the meaning of it. It is important for the children to … Continue reading

Gospel Doctrine: “Great Is Thy Faith”

The focus of this week’s lesson is on the receipt of the keys of the kingdom; as usual, the scriptures contain so many more lessons to be observed. As I started reading Lesson 13 today, I was touched by the faith of the Canaanite woman who pleaded with the Savior to heal her daughter. (Matthew 15:21-28) The story initially appears to be your typical “Master, please heal” one, as found throughout the scriptures. However, when you take a second look, you realize that this Canaanite woman was not an Israelite; she was a Gentile. Thus, when she asked the Lord … Continue reading

Visiting Teaching: Spiritual Promptings

One of the greatest claims that we have once we have been confirmed as members of Christ’s church is the constant companionship of the Holy Ghost. So long as we keep our lives in order, so long as we constantly strive to draw closer to our Savior, we have both the blessing and the right to claim divine inspiration as it is needed in our lives. This month’s visiting teaching lesson focuses on how we, as sisters, can become an instrument in God’s hands as we listen to and obey the promptings of the Holy Ghost. Many times in our … Continue reading
