Happy National Clean Out Your Refrigerator Day!

Happy National Clean Out Your Refrigerator Day! Today (what’s left of it anyway) is dedicated to the chore most of us dread to undertake. I realize that in most time zones the day is almost over, but if you are anything like me then cleaning the frig is more of a week long process than a day long one, so why not turn the event into a multi-day “celebration.” What’s more, the day was created to fall near Thanksgiving to inspire all of us to clean out our refrigerators to make room for the turkey and all of the fixings. … Continue reading

How Clean Was Your Last Flight?

I have spent previous blogs addressing the issue of cleanliness (or lack of cleanliness) and hotel rooms. Now, it’s time to ask the question: “Just how clean are the airplanes we are riding in?” I just shelled out a TON of money to book flights home to Hawaii for the holidays AFTER I found out about a new investigation done on the state of airlines’ cleaning habits—apparently cleanliness has “taken a back seat to financial survival.” The results of the study (which I will get to in a moment) made me wince. What’s more, I immediately thought about how irate … Continue reading

Organizing “Problem Areas”

Last night, I dreamt of owning a bulldozer. I had contemplated using one on my daughter’s playroom the other day, so I’m sure it was just an offshoot of my subconscious. It may sound ridiculous, but it was the only tool I could think of that would accommodate the task of singularly scooping up all of the toys that lay strewn on the floor. The room looked like a toy-eating dragon regurgitated his five-course meal on the floor. Just looking at the mess made me want to curl up on the floor and fall asleep (I very well would have, … Continue reading

Hotels–How Clean Are They?

I love to travel… but I hate to pack. I enjoy flying… but I dread the boarding process. And, I treasure staying at hotels… as long as they are clean. I have touched on the issue of hotel cleanliness in prior blogs, but this new finding warrants additional coverage. A new study, released just a couple of days ago, reveals that many hotel rooms are havens for germs. Initially, I wasn’t that surprised. After all, I saw the “20/20” investigation on filthy hotel mattresses and unsanitary bedspreads (by the way, experts did conclude that on items like bedspreads, cloth dries … Continue reading

Devotions of Purity

The concept of purity, cleanliness, or righteousness is something which is lost in today’s society. If you read my article over the pure life, you probably have some idea of what I am talking about. People live in such a way as if there are no consequences for the things they do in their life. However, living a life in such a way often means that one’s life is completely filled with the mire of sin. According to Romans 3:23 “all have sinned” and are therefore impure and unclean; however, Christians need to be always removing the waste of sin … Continue reading

The Pure Life

The older I get, and the more experiences I have as a Christian living in a sinful world, the more I realize that a life as a Christian is a clean, pure life. The Christian life is pure and clean because Christians live to a higher standard than the world. Christians live their lives in obedience to the Lord. Consider a comparison of a Christian life and a worldly life. The Christian life is filled with wholesome speech and does not contain cursing. The Christian’s speech is encouraging to those around them and filled with thankfulness and praise toward God. … Continue reading

Purchasing A Home Air Purifier—Part 1

For the past few weeks I have been having an ongoing discussion with a friend who lives in the heart of New York City. He has been contemplating getting an air purifier for his apartment. While I don’t live smack in the middle of a major metropolis, I too have been considering investing in an air purifier for our home. I have severe allergies and my daughter has recently been showing signs that she may have inherited my bad sinuses. My doctor says that in the average home, every cubic foot of air contains about 3 million dust particles. The … Continue reading

30 Minute Home Makeover

Have you ever watched the popular Food Network program “30 Minute Meals with Rachael Ray?” On the show perky hostess Rachael Ray shows you how to whip up a delicious meal in less than a half hour. The rationale: the quicker you can get the food on the table, the more time you will have to spend with your family and friends. I thought about this concept the other day when my husband called to say that he was bringing a colleague home to review a project he was working on. The good news: He actually called before showing up. … Continue reading

Spring Cleaning Safety

Why do we clean everything when spring is ready to bloom? Some people just do it because they think their home could use a good, thorough cleaning at least once a year. The real reason for this spring cleaning tradition is to prevent your home from becoming infested with little pests that also bloom in the spring! The slightest crumb of food or leftover juice spill hidden away somewhere could be detected by ants, flies, and other insects from pretty far away. Their sense of smell is far higher than humans, and when they need food they can find it … Continue reading
