Organize Your Mornings: Get Clever with Clothing

Continuing the series, In Pursuit of More Organized Mornings… Well, we have to get dressed each and every morning, but does it really have to be an exercise in frustration? No, it doesn’t, and there are some ways to make it a much more organized process. Preparing clothes the night before, or getting the entire week’s worth of clothing ready over the weekend, will give you a great head start. Organized Outfits Instead of placing clothes in dresser drawers according to the type of clothing, you may want to try a different idea, especially for children. Match pants and shirts, … Continue reading

Fashion Week: It Ain’t Over Till It’s Over

Tina Turner was there, as was famed film director Robert Wilson, and scores of other fashionistas. Fashion Week has moved to Milan… and trendsetters are jostling for front row seats at some of the week’s most highly anticipated shows, including Giorgio Armani’s. The famed designer drew a bevy of VIP’s when he showed off his Fall/Winter 2007 collection on Monday. His creations focused on muted shades with a myriad of glistening sequins. Fashion editors call Armani’s collection, “a dazzling display of feminine tones, from sparkling ballerina footwear to knitted caps dotted with dewdrop crystals.” Noticeably missing from the designer’s collection: … Continue reading

Do You Still Dress and Coiffe Even Though You Work From Home?

I confess, some days, I work in my pajamas (or robe or sweats or wrapped in a blanket)—but it’s not very often. Mostly, I just feel better and more productive if I treat my work-at-home days just like my work-away-from-home days. Now, even if I shower and dress, I don’t always do my hair if I’m not planning on leaving the house—but, I’d love to hear from our other work-at-homers and home business owners about how you all approach daily hygiene when you don’t have to be out and about? I know that not all work from home businesses take … Continue reading

New York Fashion Week—That’s A Wrap!

Another New York Fashion Week is officially in the books. The event wrapped up Friday with some of the biggest names in the industry, including Ralph Lauren and Tommy Hilfiger, previewing their fall collections. Tommy Hilfiger returned to his preppy roots for his fall collection. The models in his show sashayed down the runway in classic tweeds, cable-knit sweaters, plaids and peacoats. One fashion editor called it: “A sophisticated twist on the collegiate look.” Hilfiger also got rave reviews for a turtleneck sweater dress with horizontal black-and-white stripes, and a plaid cape, which featured a reflective lining and a reflective … Continue reading

New York Fashion Week—Must-Have Items For Fall

Fur and fashion. Mention those two words in the same sentence around PETA supporters and you can bet the fur will be flying. But, on the runways of New York Fashion Week, fur has turned into (gasp!) a must-have item for fall—good looking fake fur, that is. Leave it to designer Marc Bouwer to send models down the runway in mink minidresses. Fashion magazine editors say fake fur is hot, hot, hot for fall. “If the past two falls have been about jewel-encrusted clothing, this fall will be all about fur-enhanced clothing,” one fashion analyst told reporters. From outerwear to … Continue reading

Celebrity Inspired Valentine’s Day Gift Ideas

Sure, a red rose is a symbol of love, but I don’t know any woman who would turn down a bouquet of pink roses, especially if the flowers were paired with a fragrance that would last long after the arrangement wilted. Enter famous fashion designer Vera Wang. The popular wedding dress creator knows that roses are always in fashion on Valentine’s Day and she’s using that to her advantage. This year Wang is teaming up with FTD.com to offer “Love Day” gift-givers the perfect way to say, “I adore you.” The florist is offering a selection of soft pink roses … Continue reading

Fall Fashion Preview—Short Skirts and “Acid” Accents

With temperatures hovering near MINUS 15 degrees Fahrenheit (at least here in the Upper Midwest) it’s hard to think about wearing short, flirty skirts. But, short hemlines are one of the first trends to emerge from New York Fashion Week. The annual event, currently underway in the Big Apple, is drawing huge crowds of celebrities, their stylists, fashion editors and retailers. In a previous blog I listed some of the first must-have items to emerge from the runways. This blogs recaps some of the other trends revealed at yesterday’s shows. While the rest of the country was prepping to watch … Continue reading

New York Fashion Week—–Hot Trends For Fall

Fashion Week is underway in New York City and while the BIG names in fashion, including Marc Jacobs, Calvin Klein and Vera Wang have yet to unveil their collections experts say they are already spotting hot, new trends. It seems you should stick with your New Year’s exercise regime if you want to look good in the hot new looks for Fall 2007. According to fashion editors, fitter, tailored clothes are among the must-have items this season. As for the popular colors–winter whites, beige-tone neutrals, plum, green and teal are hot for fall. Look for the trends in fashion magazines … Continue reading

Selling Clothes Online

A lot of entrepreneurs get their start on eBay, and often through selling clothing. Everyone has clothes, and parents so often find themselves with outgrown clothing that they have little use for. But, clothing is by far the largest category on the site, and the competition is fierce. With the recent raise in fees, it is often not profitable to sell used clothing on eBay at all, but there are a few exceptions. One of the exceptions I have found is for very high end clothing. These are the brands that people will be actively searching for. If you have … Continue reading

Fashion Don’t: Baggy Pants

I have written my share of fashion blogs over the past few months. I tend to limit the number of times I inject my own opinion about fashion trends simply because I feel what works for one person may not work for another. As I have mentioned before I am partial to khakis rather than super skinny jeans and prefer little to no makeup versus the Tammy Faye Bakker look (but, like I said to each his/her own). There is however a fashion trend I have not been silent about—super baggy pants. You know the ones wannabe rappers (yes, I’m … Continue reading
