Ancestry.com Had Another Site Outage

Did you have problems using Ancestry.com the other night? It probably wasn’t because of something wrong with your computer. The popular genealogy website had it’s second site outage in less than a month. The issue, whatever it was, has been resolved, but it is leaving people who pay for the service with some questions. On August 9, 2012, the popular genealogy website, Ancestry.com, experienced a site outage. It carried over into August 10, 2012 before things got resolved. Since the website was inaccessible, someone at Ancestry.com posted a status on their Facebook page that noted that they were aware of … Continue reading

When the Insurance Check is Sent to the Mortgage Company Part 2

Back in November I wrote about my four month saga on getting my roof repaired from a hail storm that had happened the previous summer. When I wrote that article, I thought that my roof repair was imminent. I thought that we were about to receive the check from the insurance company and start the roof and home repairs. It did not happen. It is now January, and I am finally hearing the sound of banging and hammering on my roof. So what happened? We got the good-old-run-around. In what can only be compared to the struggles on closing on … Continue reading

When the Insurance Check is Sent to the Mortgage Company

Back in August (see article) I wrote about the fact that we had hail damage we could not see and fortunately called the insurance company just in case because there had been a hail storm. I mentioned that we had been approved for repairs and wroud get our roof and gutters replaced shortly. It’s now November. We are finally getting the roof replaced this week. What took so long? Well, the insurance check was sent to the Mortgage company. After the insurance company adjuster came, we received a letter within two days detailing the repairs to be made. We took … Continue reading

The Downsides to Writing for a Company Blog, Part One

I just finished writing about the great benefits that come from blogging for a company but there are also some disadvantages that come from blogging for a company versus running a personal blog. Check out the following: *You have a set amount of blogs per month or per week or even per day that you have to write. Many company blogs say “X is the least amount of blogs you can write per month, and Y is the most.” You cannot just write when you’re “in the mood” – you have signed a contract to produce and you must produce … Continue reading

The Great Benefits of Blogging for a Company, Part One

I have talked about the great benefits of having a personal blog and now I wanted to talk about the upside to working for a company as a blogger. *You know how much you’re going to make with each blog entry. When you have a personal blog, you may only end up making pennies each month, literally. When I write a blog for Families, on the other hand, I know exactly how much I am going to make from each blog. I can calculate how much my paycheck will be before it is even cut and sent to me, and … Continue reading

Power Surge And Electrical Outages.

Homeowner and renter insurance policy holders should check their policy and be sure to understand what is and what is not covered when the power goes out. Short power interruptions often cause damage to personal property and houses. The most common and expensive damage happens when the power comes back on and a surge of electricity floods the open circuits in the house. A large blast of electricity can cause computers to lose data, electronics to overheat, malfunction of household electronic equipment such as heating systems and alarm equipment. Sometimes a surge can cause fires or the loss of electricity … Continue reading

Ancestry.com Has Acquired 1000memories

Ancestry.com has announced on their blog that they have acquired 1000memories, Inc., makers of the ShoeBox app. The entire 1000memories team will join Ancestry.com. Another announcement states that there will be a new version of ShoeBox for iOS that connects to Ancestry.com. One of the most popular names in genealogy is Ancestry.com. People who have absolutely no interest whatsoever in genealogy will still recognize the name, (mostly due to their connection to the “Who Do You Think You Are?” television show). How Not to Go Broke Celebrating Halloween

(All treat no trick) You don’t need to be a parent to know that celebrating Halloween is not cheap. These days dressing up as a naughty nun and gorging on 100 Grand bars can really set you back, and not just spiritually. The cost of costumes, candy, decorations and fillings for cavities caused by giving into your Laffy Taffy addiction is scary expensive. And, if you have multiple kids to costume and provide school treats for, the total cost of the holiday can be even more frightening. In 2011, Halloween surpassed Valentine’s Day as the second most expensive holiday celebrated … Continue reading
