iTunes: Over 3 Billion Served

Do you remember years ago when it was fun to watch the McDonald’s sign change to show how many burgers were sold. Somewhere along the line, they just couldn’t keep up any longer, and those signs changed to the line “billions and billions served. It is a very different world now, and success is measured in music downloads rather than patties with special sauce. Yesterday, Apple announced that more than three billion songs have been purchased and downloaded from the Apple iTunes store. “We’d like to thank all of our customers who have contributed to this incredible milestone,” said Eddy … Continue reading

Apple iPhones Can Be Hacked

This morning, The New York Times broke the story that the Apple iPhone is vulnerable to being attacked by hackers. Apparently, there is a flaw in the device that gives hackers the opportunity to take over control of an iPhone. According to the Times, researchers at a company called Independent Security Evaluators proved that they could take over and control a personal iPhone in two different ways. Knowing How Politics Affect Your Business

We are not operating our home businesses in a vacuum or in isolation. It may seem like that sometimes, but in fact, we are part of a larger community and the economy as a whole. Vista Add-Ons Are Still Late

This past Monday, Microsoft issued an apology to its users regarding the new Vista operating system. The apology was for the tardy release of two promised add-ons. According to Microsoft, the missing add-ons are expected to be released by the end of summer. Back in January, when Vista was originally released, Microsoft promised a series of “Ultimate Extras” add-ons that would be included in the Windows Vista Ultimate Edition operating system. Originally, about 24 add-ons were promised. So far, four of those add-ons have actually been released. They are: Windows Hold’Em, a poker game; the secure online key backup; the … Continue reading

Do You Watch The Evening News?

When the clock strikes 5:30 p.m. (in Hawaii) my father dutifully stops what he is doing and sits down to watch the nightly national news. Looking at the time you may have figured out he is old-fashioned in the sense that he still gets his news from one of the three major networks and tends to shy away from the glitzy 24-hour news channels. Yes, my dad is part of a dying breed of loyal network TV news viewers. These days executives at ABC, CBS and NBC would pay a pretty penny to delve into my father’s mind and learn … Continue reading

Newsmen Making News

ABC News’ Charlie Gibson took a break from his anchoring duties recently to urge students at his father’s alma mater to be honest and fair. Gibson made the remarks during commencement ceremonies at the school. “It sounds old-fashioned, but I will tell you there are ethical imperatives in this life,” Gibson told members of the graduating class. “Compassion. Honesty. Fairness. Trustworthiness. Respect for others. If those things are not the bedrocks of your life, you will suffer for their absence in time. And I would wager you won’t much like yourself.” Gibson also received an honorary Doctor of Humane Letters … Continue reading

Homeschooling Abuse or Abuse of Homeschooling

A CBS TV show a few years ago called The Dark Side of Homeschooling highlighted the deaths of three homeschooled children at the hands of their mother, and two other cases of abuses of homeschooled children as well. It is true that horrible things have happened to some homeschooling kids, but in each of the cases profiled, homeschooling was not the cause of the problem. The parents were the cause of the problem. Unfortunately, some abusers are wily enough to use homeschooling as a tool to cover abuse of children. They know that they may be caught in their misdeeds … Continue reading
