Mom Turns in Teen Children for Crimes Caught on Tape

Every June the city I live in, Milwaukee, hosts its annual 11 day music festival, “Summerfest.” It takes place along the lakefront at Maier Festival Park. With sometimes hundreds of thousands of people attending, there is always the chance of some kind of incident that involves the police. For the most part however, major problems are avoided. Well, that was until this past week. The big news story didn’t involve a bunch of drunken adults. No, it was about a group of 22 teenagers who looted a gas station and assaulted a number of victims. I should be fair and … Continue reading

O.J. Simpson: The Unluckiest Guy in America?

Just when you think (hope) he is gone, O.J. Simpson turns up in the news again. This time, his longtime girlfriend Christie Prody is in the hospital. I know what you are thinking – a significant other of O.J.’s has been harmed? But, wait, let him explain! Christie, who looks strikingly like O.J.’s ex-wife Nicole Simpson, is in intensive care at the Baptist Hospital in Miami-Dade County. She is suffering from a “significant head injury.” Now you are probably asking – how did it happen? Well, according to O.J. Simpson, Christie was drunk at the gas station. She slipped and … Continue reading

Getting Even with Dad (1994)

“Getting Even with Dad” stars Ted Danson and Macaulay Culkin (both sporting really bad hairdos) as a father and son who haven’t seen each other in years. Ray (Danson) was arrested for stealing VCRs and spent a few years in jail, and when he was released, his wife asked for a divorce. She died of cancer not too long after that, so Timmy (Culkin) has been living with his aunt ever since. Ray wants to go straight and has been working in a bakery ever since his release from jail – he took a class on cake decorating in prison. … Continue reading

Hard Work with Little Return

Our former church worked with the children in a housing project in north Houston for many years. It all started when a woman in the church starting bringing a few children from there to church. More and more kids wanted to come to our church and other volunteers started helping. I have been in most of the worst housing projects in Houston in terms of poverty, living conditions, and crime. Jefferson Park (not the actual name) ranks right up there with the very worst. Drug dealing, robberies, rapes, and murders were common. Once when our volunteers returned the children from … Continue reading

Is Your Child Safe in Your Neighborhood?

Are you taking the necessary measures to make sure that your children are safe in your neighborhood? Are you monitoring what happens when they go outside to play or to a neighbor’s house? It is important to keep in mind that your neighborhood may not be as safe as you think. Unless you are in a gated neighborhood, strangers can enter at will. You also may not realize what is happening in the dynamic between the children in your neighborhood. This is written not to scare anyone, but rather as the result of recent incidents that have come up with … Continue reading
