Movies Week in Review: January 7th – January 12th

Looking for some great movies to watch? Whether you prefer the old classics or the new releases, this week you’ll find something that will appeal to you. First is “I’d Climb the Highest Mountain,” an unrated film starring Susan Hayward as a young bride going to live in the mission field of Georgia with her idealistic husband. Together they face trial and tragedy, and she feels like quitting and going home to her parents, but in the end they grow closer together and more committed to the ministry. I greatly enjoyed this film. Next comes “Swing Time,” a Fred Astaire/Ginger … Continue reading

Two More Ways to Save on Diapers

Does a large chunk of your monthly grocery bill get spent on diapers? Even with coupons, diapers can add as much as $20 to your bill. Yikes. In past articles, I’ve talked about some ways to save, including using cloth diapers, buying generic disposable diapers and strategies for buying name brand diapers for less. But recently, I discovered two new ways for saving money on diapers, and I just wanted to share them with you. Have you ever noticed organic diapers in your grocery store? I certainly haven’t, and neither have most people I am guessing. The reason for my … Continue reading

Beatles Song + Diaper Commercial = Controversy

Have you seen the TV ad? Devoted Beatles fans are lashing out at the maker of a popular brand of disposable diapers. Procter & Gamble, the maker of Luvs diapers, is currently running a TV commercial which features the Fab Four’s 1967 peace anthem “All You Need Is Love.” The TV ad shows a diaper-clad tot wrestling with a stuffed bear as his smiling family looks on. The commercial’s tag line is: “All you need is Luvs.” Company executives say their use of the song was simply to provide consumers with an upbeat introduction to the new Luvs’ “Bear Hug … Continue reading

The Frugal Baby: Disposable Diapers And Buying in Bulk

In this second article in the series about saving the most money you can on disposable diapers, I’ll share some one of the secrets that I have learned about frugal diapers. I’m putting my third child through diapers now, and believe me there is a lot I have learned since the time my first child was going through them. In the very beginning, there were times when I thought that it would be easier to just wrap his little bottom with dollar bills. In the first part of the series, I shared how being flexible can help save money. I … Continue reading

What To Know Before You Ask Someone Out for a Date

A good rule of thumb, if you ask someone out on a date, know where you want to go or what you want to do before you ask them. There are several reasons for this, of course, but the best reason is that people are indecisive. They are never quite sure what they want to do, but will often agree to do something if it sounds like fun. So for the average person who wants to go out on a date, the first issue you should acknowledge is that money is likely to be involved. Whether it’s just paying for … Continue reading

General Conference From the Past: The Enriching of Marriage

In a General Conference talk given in October 1977, entitled “The Enriching of Marriage”, Elder James E. Faust of the Presidency of the First Quorum of the Seventy outlines a variety of methods to avoid divorce by growing and strengthening our marriages. Elder Faust first tells the story of a woman who received a justified divorce, by his reckoning. Several years later, the woman told him that, had she known then what she knew ‘now’, she would have remained in the marriage. He goes on to cite the statistic that, as he gave his talk, for every 100 marriages in … Continue reading

Would You Date a Proven Liar?

I’m not going to mention the name of the show, although some of you will likely know the one I’m talking about. I don’t want to name it or link to it, because it doesn’t fit our “rated PG” preferences here. In fact, I ended up turning it off due to the graphic language and content, but I did learn something from the parts I did watch. The show has a person meet with two other people, potential dates, and ask them several questions. What they don’t know is that their responses are being recorded and processed with a lie … Continue reading

$30 off your Huggies purchase of $99

We liked to use cloth diapers at home when mine were little. The feel of the soft cotton that had been dried in the wind on the clothesline was just lovely. What wasn’t so lovely was changing the babies every 45 minutes. I sure was glad that disposables were around when were going out somewhere! They were a real treat. For moms who are working outside of the home with babies in daycare, they’re more a necessity. If you’re one of the many mothers using disposable diapers (or if your child is wearing Good Nites), this deal will be very … Continue reading

A New Place To Look For Love

You’ve heard of people looking for love in bars, grocery stores, the gym, even online, but how many people do you know that look to their parents to hook them up with Mr. or Ms. Right? (Okay, besides those singles who are participating in arranged marriages?) Personally, I don’t know many. However, I’m told that could soon change. According to a new study a large segment of the dating population is discovering that family matchmaking works. It’s being touted as the hippest, hottest trend in dating. So hot, in fact, that MTV has created two shows, which feature parents helping … Continue reading
