The Fitness Blog Week in Review June 9 – June 15

It’s been a long week here, my daughter got over a bad bout with a fever last week and I’ve spent most of the week trying not to come down with it myself. Unfortunately, I haven’t been very successful. Let’s take a good look at the week in review before I take a day of ease on Saturday. Saturday, June 9 Hot summer days are not always conducive to outdoor exercise. When temperatures cruise upwards of 95 degrees, it may be time to investigate Indoor Workouts. Sunday, June 10 Does School-Based Fitness Fade Over the Summer? There is some speculation … Continue reading

Dear Heather … What is Lymphatic Massage?

Dear Heather, I was listening to the radio this morning and there was a lady on there talking about lymphatic massage. She made it sound like it’s the way to go if you want to burn off cellulite and firm up even if you do exercise regularly – but what I wasn’t getting from the radio show was – what is lymphatic massage? Do you know what it is and what it’s good for? – Curious in New Mexico Good morning Curious in New Mexico, I did some research of my own after I got your question. Lymphatic massage is … Continue reading

Dear Heather … Can you really be fit and fat?

Dear Heather, I enjoy reading your blog regularly and I have been tempted to send you a question in the past, but I always refrained. Now I’m biting the bullet and I’m sending you a question that I’m really curious about. I am basically in good health. I exercise regularly – 4 to 5 times a week. I enjoy riding my bike and walk every chance that I get. I play sports with my boys (they are 14 and 17) and I have low blood pressure and low cholesterol. The problem is I am 5’4 and I weigh about 220 … Continue reading

Dear Heather … My Husband Thinks It’s My Fault

Dear Heather I get so frustrated with my husband sometimes. I’m overweight. I have been since my second child was born. With my son, the weight just fell off, but in the last couple of years I haven’t lost that pregnancy weight with my daughter. I don’t like how I look, honestly, I feel very chunky and ungainly these days. I gained over 50 pounds and I only lost about 10 after our daughter was born and then quickly regained that 10 pounds. A couple of days ago, I was feeling pretty frustrated and my husband said, and I quote, … Continue reading

Dear Heather …I’m Exhausted

Dear Heather, I’m exhausted. I confess, I don’t like exercising. I do it because I need to do it and because I read blogs like yours that promote all the wonderful things that exercise can do for you. I want exercise to do all those wonderful things for me. But I have four children, the youngest is turning a year old next month and the oldest is finishing up the fifth grade at the same time. My husband works and is often gone for 12 to 14 hours a day. I never stop moving, from the moment I get up … Continue reading

Dear Heather … I Want To Journal My Experiences

Dear Heather, I love your Fitness blog, it’s fun to read and you seem like a real person most of the time. I get the feeling you know what it is to have setbacks and to not be perfect and as much as I want to be that in shape, fit and toned person; I don’t think I ever will be. I work out, but only semi-regularly. I can never seem to get into a routine that lets me maintain my workout longer than two or three weeks at a time. You know how it is, kids get sick, a … Continue reading

Dear Heather … Exercise & Addiction

Dear Heather, My son has struggled with drug use over the last two years and while we have tried to get him into rehabilitation programs before and more to help him to quit, we’ve not been successful. Recently after running away and getting hooked again, he came home and said that he’s done with drugs for good. He’s been exercising regularly, running four and five miles a day. At first, I wasn’t sure if he really was doing it and I hate to admit it, but I’ve followed him and so has his father on many occasions and he’s doing … Continue reading
