North Pole Holiday Wallpaper

If you want Christmas or holiday desktop wallpaper, you’ve come to the right place. From elegant ribbons to cozy Christmas village scenes, North Pole Wallpaper is one of the best websites around for decorating your desktop this season. The wallpapers that they have are outstanding. My favorite one, the one I have on my laptop desktop is one of a single red christmas ball hanging from a snowy limb of an evergreen tree. It leaves plenty of space for my desktop icons, and is a simple design. The little bit of frost or snowflake on the Christmas ball is just … Continue reading

Thanksgiving Wallpapers

When I start up my laptop each morning, I am greeted by classic Winnie-the-Pooh, Piglet and Tiger, playing in the leaves. It is a festive way to begin a day or work or have a smile before I check my e-mail. Having a fun desktop is fun, and it also encourages me to keep all of my icons from cluttering the desktop. I write somewhere between 90 and 120 articles a month, and I tend to save them all to my desktop for a few days before filing them away in their proper places. But I could never cover up … Continue reading

Turning Your Car Windshield into a Desktop?

Microsoft recently submitted a patent application for a very interesting application that appears to be a way of turning your car windshield into a sort of computer desktop. The patent application calls the device an “Adaptive heads-up user interface for automobiles.” The application also includes some drawings that clearly represent an automobile windshield that contains a sort of overlaid interface. Icons are situated around the perimeter of the windshield, on the left side and bottom, specifically. Crave at CNET.com has plunged through all of the complicated wording and say, “we managed to glean that the engineers who came up with … Continue reading

Want to add some Independence Day Spirit to your desktop or laptop? Why not try one of these patriotic wallpapers? I hope that you are having a great Independence Day. And even if you aren’t in the United States, perhaps you want to join the rest of us in celebrating. For my family, well we have been having a great time. We just witnessed our first parade in our new town. After the parade was over, we had fun at the town park with balloons, popcorn, games and prizes. Later, we will be heading over to a nearby town for … Continue reading

Google Desktop

Can’t find that e-mail message from Lisa that had her phone number in it? And what ever happened to that photo of your son on the playground that you are sure you downloaded to your hard drive? With Google Desktop, you can easily search your entire hard drive to find what you need. Of course you are familiar with Google, the powerful search engine that you probably use everyday. In fact, it is so popular that it has spawned it’s own verb tense, as in “Okay, I admit it, I googled my old high school boyfriend, yesterday.” (Oh come on, … Continue reading

Wallpaper Originals: Free for Mac & PC

Wallpaper originals is one of those web sites that I find myself going to frequently. The site offers thousands of free original desktops for your screen, and they are all compatible with either Mac or PC. You won’t find the same old wallpapers here. While they do have a “people” category, it isn’t populated with dozed and dozens of scantily clad Britney Spears and Jessica Simpson poses. Instead, you may find an ultrasound of a baby, a native american woman looking regal against a mountain, or an adorable child in a field of heather. Nor will you find every black … Continue reading

Create an Extra Surface out of Thin Air

If you could use some extra surface space, such as a place to set your laptop, a desk for kids to study, a serving table, or a few more feet of counter space, this project is for you. If you can attach some hinges to the wall and to a piece of wood, or have someone attach them for you, you can add a work surface to any room in your home and have it in place before tomorrow. You can make your work surface any size you want, but for this project, we’ll go with a 20″ x 30″ … Continue reading
