What You Need to Know Before You Buy a Digital Photo Frame for Mother’s Day

According to the cashier at my local Kohl’s department store, digital photo frames are the hottest buy this Mother’s Day. (The woman in front of me in line was purchasing one for her mom hence the info from the store employee.) I believe it. In fact, I wasn’t at all surprised by the claim given that just this past Sunday Circuit City held digital photo frame demonstrations at its stores nationwide. And it’s not just Mother’s Day. People are snatching them up to give as graduation gifts, for Father’s Day, birthdays and as wedding presents. So what do you need … Continue reading

Don’t bother upgrading to a $2,500 camera. Forget about signing up for a photography class. Are You A Snap Happy Parent?

In a previous blog I shared a photo secret with you. I reluctantly admitted that I have cataloged in chronological order more than 5,000 pictures I’ve taken of my 3-year-old daughter. At first I thought that was an exorbitant number of pictures to have of one child, but that’s before I heard about a mom in Georgia who claims she has snapped more than 8,500 pictures of her 8-month-old baby. More than 8,000 pictures in 8 months? That’s more than 1,000 photos a month. The mother says she takes her digital camera everywhere and is determined to create a daily … Continue reading

Reasons To Use Digital Cameras At Your Wedding

I’m not sure digital cameras were even around when I got married. Just kidding. Half-kidding at least. I got married before the digital photography phenomenon evolved into the all-encompassing trend that it is today. These days most couples don’t hesitate to hire wedding photographers who deal exclusively in digital equipment. In fact, a growing number of brides are now actively seeking digital photographers because they want the opportunity to share their wedding pictures online. Old-fashion photo albums are becoming a thing of the past. All the engaged couples I know have already assembled an online site dedicated to their weddings. … Continue reading

Digital Photography 101: The Power of PictBridge and Card Readers

There are a ton of different digital cameras on the market right now and it seems these days there are almost as many printers. The stiff competition among brands inspired PictBridge. PictBridge is a single printing format shared by a large number of major camera and printer makers. Basically, it provides you with the easiest way to print out your digital pictures. For example, if you own a Canon camera and your HP printer speaks PictBridge, you can print pictures in a single step. All you have to do is plug one side of a standard USB cable into your … Continue reading

Digital Photography 101: Photo Sharing

Sometimes I wonder if my parents lived closer to us if I would take as many pictures of my daughter as I do. Don’t get me wrong; I love to take pictures, and my 3-year-old daughter is my favorite subject, but often I feel compelled to shoot extra (many extra) images because my mom, dad, brothers, grandmother, etc. live 5,000 miles away. So in essence the pictures (and video) of my daughter I send to them are the only tangible means by which they can share in her milestones. Which brings us to the next part in our digital photography … Continue reading

Digital Photography 101: Printing Footnotes

In the last couple of days our continuing series on digital photography has focused on the art of printing. We’ve learned that taking memorable shots is only half the joy (or challenge, depending on how you look at it) of digital photography. The technology gives you the gift of instant gratification (getting to view your shots instantaneously), but ironically many digital photographers allow their images to sit in their cameras for months (if not longer) before take the initiative to print them. To that end I find it imperative to discuss a few other benefits of having a photo printer … Continue reading
