Models Go Green

I’ve talked about some of my favorite green celebrities, but now, even models, not always known for their healthy, eco-friendly lifestyles, are going green. Supermodel Cindy Crawford is now writing a green blog for Vanity Fair. While it may seem more natural for her to be on the cover than writing for the magazine, Cindy had a green awakening after becoming a mom. She has started recycling plastics, unplugging appliances when not in use, drinking tap water, and using recycled napkins and paper towels to inspire her children to be good, conscientious citizens. Canadian model/former host of MTV’s “House of … Continue reading

Hollywood’s Winners and Losers—The Sweet Smell of Success and the Agony of Aging

Here we go again… Yet another female celeb has decided her sense for scents is good enough to launch her own perfume. Rapper turned actress Queen Latifah has become the latest star to release a new fragrance line. (Actually, her perfume won’t be in stores until next year.) I know. I know. Another celeb, another scent to be doused with as you make your way through the cosmetics department at Macy’s. The reason I decided to blog about Queen Latifah’s fragrance launch is because I was intrigued by her response to the question: “Why add one more perfume to an … Continue reading

Travel Tip: Where To Find Fashionistas

In a previous blog I revealed the name of the leggy blond who recently sashayed away with the title of world’s highest paid model. So, what are your chances of ever getting to meet Gisele Bundchen or her leggy counterparts during a family vacation? If you know where to look the odds are pretty good that you could catwalk your way up to one of the planet’s prettiest women. According to a new travel book on where to go to find the people of your dreams, models flock to any place that offers low-calorie cuisine, or has some beauty benefit. … Continue reading

Who Says It Doesn’t Pay To Be Beautiful?

Apparently the bulk of the money I spend at Victoria’s Secret goes to pay their models. At least that is what I have surmised from glancing at Forbes.com’s list of the world’s richest models. The top grossing catwalker rakes in a cool $33 million a year. That honor goes to Brazilian supermodel Gisele Bundchen. Leo’s ex (and Tom Brady’s current flame… at least until Friday) blows away her leggy competition when it comes to making money. Frankly, I was a bit shocked by the fact that Bundchen made more than Kate Moss (who came in at No.2) and Heidi Klum … Continue reading

Learning and Borrowing From Business Models–Part One

Perhaps, you have heard the term “business models” before and wondered what exactly it meant? A business model is really just a style or type of business operation. It may seem like there is only one way to “do business”–but that is not true, there are definitely all sorts of different ways to set up and operate a business. Many people find that it is easier and makes more sense to adopt an existing, successful, and proven business model than to try to invent one of their own. In reality, you may already have adopted someone else’s business model in … Continue reading

Tyra Banks Back In A Bikini

Recently I blogged about former super model Tyra Banks’ 20-pound weight gain and her in-your-face-finger-wagging rant to critics who called her “fat.” Now, Banks is sticking it to the tabloids yet again by modeling a bikini in this year’s Sports Illustrated swimsuit edition. In 1997, Banks became the first black supermodel to appear solo on the cover of the Sports Illustrated swimsuit edition wearing a skimpy bikini. This week the model-turned-talk-show-host is marking the modeling milestone by donning the decade-old bikini to celebrate the special anniversary. The 33-year-old recently flew to the Bahamas to recreate the shoot that earned her … Continue reading

“Stop With The Fat Jokes”—Supermodel Tells Critics To Kiss Off

Did you see today’s episode of “The Tyra Banks Show?” Even if you didn’t, it’s likely you’ve seen the massive amount of press Banks has received regarding a single picture of her that has made the cover of tabloids around the world. The photo features the former supermodel in a bathing suit with the headline: “Tyra Porkchop.” Another magazine ran the photo of her under headlines that screamed, “America’s Next Top Waddle.” The unflattering photo of Banks was today’s featured topic on her talk show. Wearing the same bathing suit that prompted the mean-spirited headlines, Banks’ admitted she’d gained about … Continue reading

Famous Model Blames Parents For Eating Disorders

Brazilian supermodel Gisele Bundchen denies ever having an eating disorder, but she says she knows many fellow models who do and she is now publicly blaming the girls’ parents for it. The statement seems a bit outlandish (I know it made me pause for a minute), but her comment wasn’t taken out of context… at least that’s what Brazil’s “O Globo” newspaper maintains. In previous blogs I addressed the issue of the fashion industry being blamed for promoting anorexia among young models, which is why I find Bundchen statements so interesting. The 26-year-old model (and actor Leonardo DiCaprio’s ex-girlfriend) recently … Continue reading

Not Something You Hear Everyday

Well, here’s something you don’t hear everyday… or ever, for that matter. According to news reports, organizers of Spain’s top annual fashion show have booted five models from this year’s event because they are considered… “too thin.” What? Stop the world from spinning. Did I read that correctly? “Too SKINNY?” The news is true. In fact, the decision to reject the skinny models was made unilaterally by event organizers who made it a rule that women below a predetermined body mass index would not be allowed to strut their stuff (what little they have) down the catwalk. Fashion show organizers … Continue reading

The Dining Room Floor: What’s On Yours?

This may sound like the location of a good horror movie, but if you play your cards right, it shouldn’t be. Although it may not be the most practical solution, the most luxurious one is to go with a dense rug that hopefully is a color that will blend in with all the major food and drink groups. If you need some help here, consider corn yellow, asparagus or pea green, plum and burgundy (grapes and wine), just to name a few. A heavy rug will also feel cozy and absorb noise, two things which are necessary when dealing with … Continue reading
