5 Terrible Disney Movies

I’ve talked about the great animated Disney films and the great non-animated Disney films. That list wouldn’t complete if I didn’t discuss some of the great stinkers presented by Disney over the years. While there are several out there, I’ve narrowed this list down to the 5 worst offenders. If you haven’t seen them, count yourself lucky. The Haunted Mansion The success of Pirates of the Caribbean notwithstanding, making a movie that is simply based on the premise of an attraction in the parks is not a safe bet. The movie was a success commercially, but the plot was flimsy, … Continue reading

Tinker Bell the Movie – Finally!

My daughter is going to be in seventh heaven this Fall when Tinker Bell the movie finally makes it’s debut. You can pre-order it at Amazon right now and trust me, I already have. What’s unique about Tinker Bell? If you’ve read any of the novels that began with Gail Carson Levine’s wonderful Fairy Dust and the Quest for the Egg and has continued through several Fairies of Pixie Hollow novels including The Trouble with Tink, Rani and the Mermaid Lagoon and so many more, then you know that the world of Tinker Bell is expanded beyond that of Peter … Continue reading

No More Direct To Video Sequels

Is it the end of an era? It looks like it. Despite billions in revenue, Disney Toon Studios President, Sharon Morrill is stepping down this week. With Morrill stepping down, so could the time of producing direct to DVD movies that were cheaply made, yet generated large profits for Disney. John Lasseter, who stepped into the role of Chief Creative Officer for Walt Disney Animation Studios in 2006, was not a huge fan of the direct to DVD films. It seems he felt they lessened the impact of the main feature and I have to say – when you look … Continue reading

Brother Bear 2 – Direct to DVD Release

Once upon a time, the idea of a direct to video or DVD release used to mean that the producers or distributors didn’t think the movie would do well in the theater and thus, the films themselves were likely of lower quality. While I think Disney does produce a few now and again that don’t quite live up to par, they have definitely set the bar high on the direct to DVD market. The soon to be released Brother Bear 2 looks to be maintaining that high level of quality. Scheduled to be released on August 29, Brother Bear 2 … Continue reading

Leroy & Stitch – Aloha!

A few weeks ago, my husband and I were in the store when my daughter spotted this movie – at first blush, I thought it was some poor Disney knockoff, but when I realized what it actually was – I felt sad. Leroy and Stitch is an animated film that concludes the Lilo & Stitch series that aired on the Disney channel from 2003 to 2006. The series was a spin-off of 2002’s Lilo & Stitch and followed the adventures of Lilo; the Hawaiian girl who befriended Stitch, an experiment gone awry and their friendship helped them both to overcome … Continue reading
