Medicare Will Gain Thousands of New People Each Day in 2011

The American Association for Retired Person’s, (AARP), has figured out that there will be a whole lot of new people joining Medicare in 2011. It is estimated that there will be 65 new Medicare beneficiaries every eight seconds, which comes to 7,000 new people each day. It has been said that this could drain Medicare this year. This is the year that many of the people in the generation known as the Baby Boomers will begin retiring. People who were born between 1946 and 1964 are part of the Baby Boomer generation, a time when over seventy-five million children were … Continue reading

Plan Your Fitness Routine for the New Seasons Ahead

To me there is nothing like a brisk morning walk. My favorite time of the day to walk is in the morning when it’s cool outside. Now for many of us we haven’t quite hit those cool mornings yet. There is still some summer left. However I always say that we should plan ahead. Since a new season is upon us, it’s time to think about how you will continue your fitness routine. One of the things that can happen is for those of us who live in the colder states; we let our fitness routine fall to the side. … Continue reading

When Cheating the System You Only Cheat Yourself

Whatever “system” you use to keep fit; there is one thing we could all be reminded of. It’s that while cheating the system, you only cheat yourself. My fitness “system” is my Wii Fit Plus. I have been faithfully working out now and feeling pretty good. However there was one day when I really didn’t feel like working out. But I wanted to mark it off on my calendar and keep up the pattern I had of working out every day. I wanted the Wii Fit system to recognize my commitment. So I worked out but I did it half-heartedly. … Continue reading

Researching Additional Insurance

I am among the growing number of Americans who has absolutely no form of health insurance. Last year at around this time, I lost my job as a teacher’s aide. My job offered great health insurance! My husband and I were covered for medical, dental, and vision care. Like many other teachers in California, there was no indication that I was about to lose my job. Suddenly, in the course a single day, I went from being someone with a full time job with benefits, to someone who had no job, and no health insurance. Naturally, this was extremely stressful. … Continue reading

What is Student Health Insurance?

In the days before a new school year is about to begin, you may want to take the time to find out about student health insurance plans. Most, if not all, colleges will offer this plan to new, and also to returning, college students. Some schools will require that students have this form of insurance, especially if the student is not covered by any other kind of health insurance. Student health insurance plans come in many forms. A school sponsored health plan is one that is purchased from the university or college that a student will be attending. In general, … Continue reading

Summer Is Fun and Accidents

It is now officially the summer season. Many of us are spending more time outdoors. With all of the fun and activities that we can participate in during summer, we also have to keep in mind that this is the time of year when most accidents happen. One of the dangers that can happen in the sweltering temperatures is becoming dehydrated. It is very important that while outdoors you keep your body properly hydrated. Last week our family took a vacation to Washington D.C. where we spent a great deal of time walking long distances outside in the blazing sunshine. … Continue reading

Coloring Your Hair At Home

I have never liked the color of my hair. When I was younger I was told that the color of my hair was “dirty dishwater blonde.” Who wants to be told that their hair is the color of dirty dishwater? I can’t say for sure but I have feeling the desire to change my hair color began back then. After I had my first child I was ready for a change. I wanted to be a cute blonde. It would require having it professionally done, which cost a lot of money. Within five weeks my dark roots would begin to … Continue reading

New Rule for Organic Milk

Organic milk standards have been a little shady at times. That is why if you have been choosing organic milk for health benefits, you need to be really informed about where your milk comes from and what might or might not be in it. A new rule in the United States may make choosing organic milk a lot easier, as well as boost the organic milk industry. When did milk become organic? Perhaps a better question might be when did dairy farmers start using hormones, antibiotics and manufactured feed for their cows. But to give it all a timeline, the … Continue reading

A Pill, Shoes and a Shake

Fitness has become an enterprise that is filled with empty promises or downright deception. I cringe when I hear things like “miracle pill.” It scares me to think of what we could be doing to our bodies when we ingest something that we have no idea what it’s made of or how it could interfere with our body’s functioning. Anything that claims to be able to do something out of the ordinary should be avoided. Lose weight by taking this pill. Lose weight by wearing these shoes. Lose weight by drinking this shake. We have to be careful that we … Continue reading

What Triggers Asthma?

Asthma has come to be an unwanted word in our home. Our youngest was first diagnosed with asthma when he was about a year old. His first asthmatic attack resulted in an emergency room visit. The doctors went through all the possibilities as to why his asthma could have started. The top of their list was allergies, however, at that time they wouldn’t test children that young. Asthma has become one of those things that you just never know when it is going to hit. At one point my son became part of a study at Children’s Hospital of Milwaukee. … Continue reading
