P is for Pirate!

Yesterday was apparently International Talk Like a Pirate Day. Unfortunately I didn’t run around saying argh and avast ye matey or whatever else it is that pirates are infamous for saying. My favorite pirate, Captain Hook, was more likely to respond to a Tick Tock than he was to ahoy matey! Disney announced yesterday that they were planning the DVD release for the Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man’s Chest for December 5th just in time for Christmas. This film has been breaking records since it’s release including the highest theatrical opening weekend in U.S. box office history and becoming … Continue reading

Brother Bear 2 – Direct to DVD Release

Once upon a time, the idea of a direct to video or DVD release used to mean that the producers or distributors didn’t think the movie would do well in the theater and thus, the films themselves were likely of lower quality. While I think Disney does produce a few now and again that don’t quite live up to par, they have definitely set the bar high on the direct to DVD market. They meet all the above criteria and then some. Disney villain merchandise is some … Continue reading

Mary Poppins: A Film Classic Oft Overlooked

It recently came to my attention that some of the younger members of my family had never been introduced to one of my favorite family films, Mary Poppins. I gasped. I guffawed. I made many noises that were probably none too appealing. I vowed to change this injustice. No little one should go without introduction to Julie Andrews’ Mary Poppins and if you’re no longer “little” and still haven’t been introduced, I think now is a fine time to rectify that situation. For those who haven’t had the pleasure of meeting Miss Poppins, the film follows the Banks children, two … Continue reading
