DeGeneres’ Doggy Drama Escalates

So much for that happy ending I predicted… Ellen DeGeneres cried her eyes out on her show yesterday as she recounted the events that led to her dog being taken from her hairstylist’s home. But, it appears the comedian’s tearful plea didn’t help soften the hearts of the owners of a dog agency that maintains DeGeneres violated an adoption contract. In fact, it looks as though the ugly situation is getting even uglier. According to news reports, as a result of the massive media exposure this doggy drama has created, the owners of Mutts and Moms (the agency DeGeneres got … Continue reading

Actor’s Dog Mauls Man

It’s not exactly the news you want to hear when you are out enjoying a nice summer day — your dogs just mauled a man and now he’s dead. Unfortunately, that’s exactly the situation actor Ving Rhames is dealing with this morning. According to police, two dogs belonging to Rhames are suspected of having seriously injured the man who takes care of the actor’s home. Officers say they received a call yesterday morning by someone who said a dead body was on the front lawn of Rhames’ Brentwood home. When police responded they say they found the body of a … Continue reading

Traveling To Hawaii—With Your Pet

Our retired neighbors would never dream of vacationing without their four-legged love child Jake. I swear Jake—a bichon frise–has seen more of this country than I have. However, up until about a month ago, the pampered pooch had never been to paradise. Because of what they thought would be complicated pet preparations, my neighbors never considered Hawaii a viable vacation destination. That all changed when my neighbors received free tickets to Oahu. It was only then that they learned that some hotels in Hawaii offer amazing amenities for traveling pets. They read a review actress and dog owner Cameron Diaz … Continue reading

Is TV Bounty Hunter Headed To The “Dog” House?

TV’s “Dog the Bounty Hunter” is making headlines again. The reality television star known for upholding the law is now being accused of breaking it. According to a Honolulu (the city “Dog” resides and films his show) newspaper, a woman has filed a lawsuit against Duane “Dog” Chapman, alleging the TV bounty hunter and his crew threw her down a flight of stairs and broke her back while apprehending her boyfriend. The paper says the contents of the lawsuit do not list specific damages, though it does accuse Chapman and his fellow bounty hunters of injuring the woman at her … Continue reading

Vivi The Dog—Fast Becoming One Of New York’s Urban Myths

Do you remember all of the news reports about Vivi the wayward pooch who escaped her travel cage at Kennedy airport to answer the call of the wild? It’s been nine months since she won an award of merit at the annual Westminster Kennel Club show, (the Super Bowl of dog shows) and fled the confines of the international airport. Now it seems the whippet has joined the Central Park coyote, high-rise tiger, Harlem Meer caiman and Molly the fugitive feline in New York’s ever-growing list of urban animal legends. Which is not to say that Vivi hasn’t been seen … Continue reading

Celebrities Dining On Dog Food?

Did you know that tomorrow is “Dine With Your Dog Day?” I didn’t, until I heard on the radio that a celebrity event promoting the day got “Desperate Housewives’” actress Nicollette Sheridan a lot of media attention. Apparently, Sheridan was supposed to eat dog food during the event designed to celebrate the bond between man and dog by encouraging pet owners to share a meal with their dog. “This is not ‘Fear Factor,’” Sheridan said Thursday, balking at the idea of downing dog food. But she wasn’t the only Hollywood hottie who declined to munch on doggie morsels. “Exorcist” head-turner … Continue reading

Hero Dog Dies During Rescue

Just when you thought the days of amazing Lassie-like rescues had gone the way of black-and-white TV—this incredible story surfaces. It is the talk of our town, and if I hadn’t seen the coverage myself I would have been reluctant to believe it. A woman who lives about a 35 minutes from our home in Wisconsin is alive today because of the heroic efforts of her dog. The woman was on the news a couple of nights ago and you could barely make out what she was trying to say through her tears. The woman, Jamie Hanson, was at home … Continue reading

Update: “Dog” Looking To Cut A Deal

TV bounty hunter Duane “Dog” Chapman’s “leash” may be cut by the end of next month. (Read my previous blog about Chapman’s arrest to get up to speed on “Dog’s” current dilemma.) The result may be less growling on “Dog’s” part. According to the latest news reports, Chapman’s attorneys are try to construct a deal to avoid his extradition to Mexico to faces charges of illegal detention and conspiracy in his capture of a cosmetics company heir there three years ago. (F.Y.I. Bounty hunting is a crime in Mexico.) This entire episode—and I don’t mean that facetiously—Chapman’s recent arrest and … Continue reading

Neighbors Want Supermodel’s Dogs Muzzled

She may be tall, have porcelain skin, and own a mane of blonde locks that others would kill for, but right now, I don’t think many people would want to be in Claudia Schiffer’s shoes. According to news reports, the supermodel is being blasted for letting her dogs “run wild.” Apparently, the situation has gotten so bad that police have been called to handle the situation. London newspapers report that officers plan to meet with Schiffer to discuss numerous complaints that her dogs are attacking walkers near her country mansion. Though, another report I read used the word “intimidated” rather … Continue reading

Is My Child Ready For A Pet?

Ever since we bought a house my husband has been trying to convince me to get a boxer dog. I am not an animal lover unlike my children and husband. Alysta loves dogs and will stop and pet any animal she sees. When we visit people with dogs she will stop and pet the dog instead of playing with the children. But I am not ready to have another responsibility, although my husband assures me he will take care of the dog. But I know differently. He is at work all day and the care of the dog would fall … Continue reading
