Puppies Successfully Cloned… For a Price

A story about an American woman who paid fifty thousand dollars to have her dog cloned made headlines this week. The story in short, if you missed it: she lost her dog Booger two years ago. Once dog cloning became available, she sold her home to finance the project to clone her lost pup. About a week ago, two surrogate mothers gave birth to five pit bull puppies — all clones of Booger. I have mixed feelings about this, to be honest. It’s a lot of money to spend, for one thing. That money could have helped a lot of … Continue reading

A Hero in Dog’s Clothing

A January 26 car accident left Shannon Lorio battered and bloodied. In a remote, wooded area, she lost control of her car on a curve. Her car went off the road and down an embankment, and she was thrown from the car and onto the trunk. She remembers pain, and bleeding, and an enormous presence above her. Too many horror movies gave Lorio a moment of panic that the dog was going to eat her; instead, the seventy pound Hero … Continue reading

Hero Dog Dies During Rescue

Just when you thought the days of amazing Lassie-like rescues had gone the way of black-and-white TV—this incredible story surfaces. A woman who lives about a 35 minutes from our home in Wisconsin is alive today because of the heroic efforts of her dog. The woman was on the news a couple of nights ago and you could barely make out what she was trying to say through her tears. The woman, Jamie Hanson, was at home … Continue reading

The winner was Whiskey, a ten year old caramel colored cocker spaniel who had been living in the shelter for four months. In June, Whiskey and his pup Cocoa were surrendered to the Humane Society of New York because their owners could no longer care for them. The Humane Society’s director hopes that Whiskey’s stage role and the surrounding publicity will … Continue reading
