Free Magazines

Magazines, who doesn’t love them? Many have coupons and promotions that help save money on all areas of our lives. They are filled with wonderful ideas on how to make life more enjoyable. What could make magazines any better? Getting them for free, of course. Here’s a bunch I have found recently. Cosmopolitan is offering 4 free issues at startsampling.com. It’s Not Barbie, It’s Bindi

She claims she doesn’t play with Barbie dolls, but perhaps she’ll make room on her shelf for her look-alike. Bindi Irwin is a doll. Really. The Emmy-winning daughter of the late “Crocodile Hunter” Steve Irwin can now sit in your child’s bedroom. Well, at least a 10-inch version of the spunky tyke can. Wild Republic, a division of K&M International Inc., based in Ohio, just announced it is developing two different Bindi dolls. The first Bindi Irwin doll sports khakis, puffy pigtails and hiking boots, and comes with binoculars, a camera and other outback gear, as well as a cockatoo, … Continue reading

The Idea Book Dilemma

It almost seems that every time I open the pages of some of my favorite scrapbooking magazines, or visit my favorite scrapbooking spots on the Internet, I am hearing about a new must-have idea book. If I purchased them all, not only could I own my own bookstore but I would never be able to purchase anything else. So how do you know if an idea book is worth it, and how do you get the best deal? Read on. How do you know it is worth it? You ask. Simple and easy, but very necessary – ask around. See … Continue reading

Don’t Waste Your Money on Scrapbooking Magazines

It goes without saying, that if you have a very favorite scrapbooking magazine, there is nobody that should influence your decision to purchase it. Especially if it keeps your mo-jo flowing and the churning out of scrapbooking layouts. So why did I title this post this way? Scrapbooking magazines have taken a major nose dive in the past several years. I was recently cleaning out my bookshelf where I have a collection of scrapbooking magazines that should put me to shame. I While they go back all the way to the mid 90’s, I was started to see that in … Continue reading

Is it Just Me?

Take a moment to look through some of the magazines in your home, or if you don’t have any, pick up a copy of one of the prominent ones sometime. Do you feel like it was written with someone like you in mind? While many magazines do a great job of covering topics that a number of women can relate to (budget, diet, exercise, clothes, hair, make up, medicine, cooking/recipes, cleaning, decorating, raising kids, careers, cars, and more) there are times when I question what “everyday” or “average” really means. I recently looked through some lists of what were supposed … Continue reading

Cloth Paper Scissors – Magazine Review

Cloth Paper Scissors is a unique and creative magazine that makes me drool. Published six times a year by Interweave Press, it is a magazine devoted to collage, mixed media, and artistic discovery. The magazine covers many types of fiber arts and collage including altered books, art dolls, visual art journal, rubber stamping, and assemblage. The featured crafts are truly works of art. Even though are beyond anything I am doing, I still learn a great deal from this publication. They cover a lot of basic techniques like glazing, how to sew on paper, and how to use rubber stamps … Continue reading

Organizing the Family Room (1)

In my home the family room always seems to be the last town in Dodge. What I mean by that, and this is a secret confession, is that on weekends, I will sometimes banish the rest of the family to that room so I can do good cleaning of the rest of the house. And, no matter how often I pick up the house during the day, the family room is always in chaos by the end of the night. I am hoping that with a bit of organization, I can tame the room and make it easier to maintain. … Continue reading

Marie Osmond’s Two-Stepping Look-A-Like Doll

Faster than you can say Paso Doble, Marie Osmond has moved from ABC’s “Dancing with the Stars” to QVC. Did you see it? Last night QVC unveiled Osmond’s new limited collection “Dancing with the Stars” dolls. The 12-inch porcelain dolls are dressed in the same costumes the 48-year-old singer wore on the show. Osmond is hawking the Boogie Woogie doll dressed in the same WWII-era military-inspired costume she wore when she dedicated her “Boogie Woogie Bugle Boy” jive to her parents. Then, there’s the Paso Doble doll decked out in the Spanish senorita outfit Osmond wore. The Samba doll is … Continue reading
