Blu-ray or HDTV?

When it comes to true high definition on recorded media, you’ll need to upgrade your home theater system to feature a DVD player that is capable of keeping up with your high definition television, such as a plasma or LCD unit. While progressive scan DVDs make a good effort, they aren’t capable of fully taking advantage of true high definition, either playing it or recording it. Many newer standard DVD players feature technology called upscaling. This maximizes the quality of DVD, giving you better detail and color quality. While these DVD players do an even better job at coming close … Continue reading

Grey’s Anatomy – Season 3 (2007)

Grey’s Anatomy is a super smash of a hit that is known more for the scandals backstage involving Isaiah Washington and T.R. Knight than the storylines from Season 3. This may be due to the fact that a show that delivered measurable doses of hope, angst, humor and tragedy needed a stomach pump to clear some of the bad medicine delivered in Season 3. Tragedies Abound The season opened with the aftermath of Denny Duquette’s death. Katherine Heigl played Izzy’s grief well and it was a journey to see her begin to put back the shattered pieces of her life … Continue reading

Hoop-Dee-Do – It’s a Wiggly Party! (2002)

I have a confession to make. I really fight the urge to wiggle, but sometimes, I just can’t help it. And it’s usually to the stupidest songs on the show, too – but hey, they’ve got a catchy beat. “Hoop-Dee-Do – It’s a Wiggly Party!” was a new one at our house this week. With the discovery that my two-year-old is a musical genius, we’ve done what we can to hunt up different musically-based DVDs for him to watch. He quite enjoys the Wiggles. We start this show like we would any party – with the guests arriving and getting … Continue reading

DVD Easter Eggs

Do you know about all of the hidden features on your DVDs? This website will show you where the best little treasures are to be found. You may not be familiar with the term Easter Egg. It is generally used to indicate something that a programmer intentionally hid within a program. The probable first Easter Egg ever was in an Atari 2600 video game called Adventure. Upset that they wouldn’t be given any credit for designing the game, the programers hid a secret message listing their names. The message could only be revealed when the player retrieved a secret “dot” … Continue reading

High School Musical 2 is Coming

Do you remember Troy and Gabriella? Their first encounter startled them both as they shared a tune and a great moment at a ski lodge over Christmas. High School Musical was a somewhat sappy, but altogether entertaining film featured on the Disney Channel. They later released the movie on DVD and the sales declared its popularity. High School Musical has also traveled the country as a concert tour and an ice show. Soundtracks fly off the shelves. We own a copy of it here and my daughter loves it. Disney is better on the popularity of the first to attract … Continue reading

Building a Homeschool Library: Educational Videos and DVDs

Previously, we have covered Building a Homeschool Library which discussed supplying classic books for your child to read. Now it is time to address building a homeschool video and DVD library. Yes, I am discussing allowing your homeschooled child to watch television… again. With videos, however, you will have lots of control, especially during those hours when there is nothing appropriate on the television. You can have your child pop in an educational video of their choice, or you can choose a video to coincide with what you have been teaching. Can’t I just rent videos? You can always borrow … Continue reading

Media and Kids

The amount of time children of all ages are spending with new media, which includes the internet, computers, and video games is staggering. The old type of media to include music and television are being taken over. Experts have been conducting in-depth analysis to determine the use of media in respect to our children. For instance, one study showed that the use of television, video, video games, music, computers, print, and movies associated with recreational use only is something children are exposed to every day and for more than one hour over the course of the past five years. Although … Continue reading

DJangos $5.99 Previously-Owned DVD Sale

We watch tons of movies in our house. Right now, Treasure Island is blaring in the family room. It’s a rare day that someone in the house is not watching a movie. We don’t watch very much television because, frankly, my 12 year old doesn’t need to know what Cialis is for. With movies, we have a lot more control over what they’re seeing. We are huge fans of Blockbuster Online, and definitely get our money’s worth. Last year we watched over three hundred movies! But sometimes you really want to have the DVD itself. Favorite traditions such as It’s … Continue reading

With so many animated movies on DVD for children, it is hard to find the really, good ones so I did some research for you.
