As if books weren’t wonderful enough already, Amazon has come up with a way to make them more portable. With the recent release of a product called “Kindle,” you can now take up to two hundred e-books with you wherever you go, but only lug around a machine less than the size of a paperback, at 10.3 ounces. Disney Teams Up With Scholastic

I love headlines like this. Scholastic books are a very firm part of my daughter’s childhood, as they were a part of mine. Scholastic is one of the major contributors to school book fairs and more. Disney, of course, is Disney. So what are they teaming up on? E Books Book-Flix, yes it sounds like Netflix and that’s the idea. It’s an educational website that will pair non-fiction e-books with short films that are based on popular picture books. Free E-books! Project Gutenberg and Baen Books!

It’s a paperless society they tell us! Everything is going to be electronic! And it’s with that philosophy we find ourselves in a world with E-books. E-books are very simply just an electronic version in various formats of an existing book or text. One of the benefits we receive with this format is portability. I can carry one or two paper-backs with me pretty easily, but with a PDA I could have 20 with me.
