Never Too Old!

Some people use age as an excuse to opt out of becoming involved and helping others. Our local paper recently ran a story about an 87 year old man, Cyril Brown. Unlike some today, his main focus has never been on earning a living and looking after his own best interests. Rather, his has been a life of helping and serving others. Currently he is a volunteer who delivers for Meals on Wheels. Ironically, he is older than some of the people he is delivering meals too. When not delivering meals, he spends his time doing other odd jobs to … Continue reading

Making Excuses and How Excuses keep us from being our Best

Excuses are one of those traps that it can be easy to fall into. After all, we want to do the “right” thing and make things happen, but it just is not always possible. Things come up. We feel guilty or pressured or stressed and the next thing we know, it feels as though we need to justify why we did not get something done or did not do what was expected of us. Whether we are making excuses to cover up or we are making excuses to ourselves, it keeps us from facing reality and having a healthy attitude … Continue reading

Fitness Week in Review for Week Ending May 17

Love these end of the week reviews where we can see what articles we talked about this week and catch you up on articles you may have missed. This week let us explore old and new ideas in fitness from getting the exercise you need on a shoe-string budget to the types of excuses we use to get out of doing the exercise in the first time. Fitness on a Shoe-String Budget is important to keep in mind when you consider the rising cost of gas, travel and fitness clubs. One of the best things about fitness is that it … Continue reading

Doing Business Without Making Excuses

Years ago, someone told me that there is a difference between the realities of a situation and excuses–excuses are things we “make up” our selves to justify why we are or are not doing something, while the realities of a situation are just that–realities–facts and logistics that exist that we really do have to cope with. In our home businesses there will be plenty of circumstances and situations that we have to manage and wrestle with, but making excuses can hurt our businesses… Sure, plenty of things are going to happen while we are doing business that are beyond our … Continue reading

The Land of Excuses

I have been at this parenting thing for long enough that you can pretty well imagine I’ve heard just about every excuse in the book. I keep thinking that eventually my kids will just give up. They too will realize that I’ve heard it all and seen it all and not even bother to offer up their ongoing feeble excuses—but, so far, that has not been the case. I have heard excuses for why messes didn’t get cleaned up or homework finished, as well as excuses for why so-and-so can’t help, make it home by curfew, etc. While I pride … Continue reading

Where is our Fitness Blog Week in Review?

Unfortunately, the craziness this week precluded a lot of fitness articles to cover for the fitness blog. We did take a look at exercise styles, but this week just didn’t lend itself to focusing on fitness as much as I would like. What Did We Do? My daughter and I did two miles per day on our bikes. We also went out for a couple of long walks. They celebrated field day on Monday and water slide day on Wednesday. She came home from school pretty tired, but excited at the same time. We spent one afternoon planning what we’re … Continue reading

Looking For My Waist, and Making Excuses for Not Finding It.

If you read my weight loss blogs last week, then you know I had problems with weekend cheating, and I was also sick this past week. Well, my sick days did not make up for my weekend cheating and I had a weight gain of 2 pounds this week. I have so many excuses to not have lost weight this week: PMS (or ovulation since I only have ovaries… I have been in pain and bloated) Flu Symptoms: Though not full blown, they kept me relatively still Knee pain: This means I did not exercise Temptation: I asked hubby to … Continue reading

Procrastinators Are Always Successful

I bet that title caught your attention and I bet the first thing you did when you read that was go pfft. I know I did when I typed it. But you see, procrastinators are extremely successful at procrastinating. They put things off, they wait for tomorrow, only in a procrastinators world – tomorrow either never arrives or it crashes down on their heads. Procrastination is Chronic Now, we have all procrastinated at one time or another – I have. I’ve looked at a pile of laundry on the floor and rolled my eyes and said, nope, I’ll do it … Continue reading

Top 15 Unusual Excuses For Not Showing Up To Work

Okay, confession time—how many times have you called in sick when you simply wanted to sleep in or run a few errands? Don’t worry. You’re in good company. Or, at least that’s what a new survey by CareerBuilder.com found. The survey found 32% of workers have used sick days as “mental health days” to relax in just the last year. And, that’s not all the survey also found that one in 10 admitted to doing so three times or more in the last year. One in four workers said they consider their sick days to be equivalent to vacation days … Continue reading

The Core of Exercise Excuses

We’ve talked about dropping exercise excuses before and we use the word excuse interchangeably with the word core. In fact, for most of us – when we avoid exercise, we come up with excuses that are plausible to our cause. Our excuses may be we’re too tired. We’re too busy. We’re overworked. We’re over committed. We have allergies. We have a cold. We don’t feel good. We’ll do it tomorrow. There are two ways to solve these types of excuses and to focus on our core problem. The first is to stop making excuses. Don’t validate yourself with the idea … Continue reading
