FASTPASS to Meet Mickey Mouse

If you head down to Disney World during tourist season, you’re bound to spend a significant portion of your vacation waiting in lines. In recognition of this problem Disney has introduced a couple different solutions: queue-less waiting systems currently being tested at the Hollywood Studios and soon to come to the Magic Kingdom with the Fantasyland expansion, and the more pervasive FASTPASS. Introduced in 1999, the FASTPASS system allows Disney guests who pay a little extra to skip the line for rides. FASTPASS holders are given a designated time at which to arrive at rides, and if they show up … Continue reading

Mickey’s Toontown Farewell

While the Fantasyland expansion means the creation of some fantastic new attractions in the Magic Kingdom, it also indicates the closing of some old Disney World standards. Tomorrow, February 12, sees the shutdown of Mickey’s Toontown Fair. I can’t be overly nostalgic about the Toontown Fair because I’ve never been to it, nor is it one of the attractions I can herald as a Disney World original. Fantasyland Expansion Update

Construction has officially begun, but now that the expansion is becoming reality, we’re learning that not all of the original plans for the new Fantasyland will come to fruition. The Orlando Sentinel has the latest details about the transformation currently happening right now in the Magic Kingdom. While the expansion still revolves around the Disney Princess theme, their section won’t be as elaborate as originally planned. Instead of Cinderella, Aurora (Sleeping Beauty), Snow White, Belle, and Ariel each … Continue reading

No Queue for You

What would it be like to visit an amusement park with no lines for rides? That’s exactly the question Disney Imagineers are tackling. Orlando Attractions Magazine reports that Disney’s testing and preparations to introduce a new queue-less waiting system for their parks. Soon to be a thing of the past? The gist of the system kind of reminds me of waiting in line for a deli: Riders are given numbers corresponding to their place “in line,” and are free to wander around an area near the ride until their number is called. But that’s where the similarity to this and … Continue reading
