Something Corny and Something Fishy

This recipe is one that is a gluten free adaptation of a recipe given to my mother years ago. It has been a favorite in our family ever since and works equally well hot with vegetables or cold. It is something we often take as a picnic food or to the football. Another advantage is it is inexpensive to make. My son-in-law told me he couldn’t make up his mind whether he’d like Cornies or my quiche for his picnic birthday lunch. I made both. He was doubly happy. Cornies Ingredients 1 and a half pound gluten free sausage mince … Continue reading

Are You Substance Dependent?

It stuck home to me recently how easy it is to become dependent on a particular substance. I’ve been doing a lot of reading lately about the problems caused by caffeine, sugar and preserved foods and making an effort to change the buying and eating habits in our household. That meant cutting out caffeine. I thought never thought I was caffeine dependent, until I went off it. True I had a cup or two of coffee a day and a couple of cups of tea at breakfast, but given the weak strength I drink my black tea and milk coffee … Continue reading

Getting it Wrong

Sometimes you can have the best intentions and think you are doing the right thing and still end up getting it wrong. One of the biggest problems these days for many people are food intolerances. Wheat and gluten allergies, peanut allergies, dairy allergies etc and you wonder, ’where did we go wrong?’ Were these things not around years ago or just not recognized? At one stage there was a big emphasis on eating more fiber and because of family history with cancer I tried to eat more bran and such products. The result was I ended up with wheat and … Continue reading

Healthy Cuisine Choices – Part 1

Growing up in the south, I knew my food wasn’t health. Everything is battered, fried, and usually dunked in some type of sauce and gravy. Although it normally tastes incredible, as I aged, I realize that I need to change the way I eat and began looking for healthier alternatives. Here are a few cuisines that provide health choices, provided you don’t “Americanize” them. Follow traditional recipes and they will not only be yummy but nutritious as well. Vietnamese We recently visited Philly and ate at a wonderful Vietnamese restaurant. It was my first experience with this cuisine, but I … Continue reading

Maybe.), then you might find the following information quite helpful. Believe it or not there are airports that are helping passengers pass the time with fun events, amenities and activities, such as: LAX Foodies have one more reason to welcome a layover at Los Angeles International Airport. Kid Friendly Adventures in Family History

Are you running out of fresh ideas to keep your kids occupied this summer? While children may not be particularly interested in listening to family stories (remember when you were little and Grandpa used to bore you to tears with stories about walking to school uphill both ways) or looking at old photographs, they may be interested in exploring your family history in other ways. A good place to begin is with your children’s favorite hobbies. Perhaps they are interested in sports, or they like to listen to music. They may really love the outdoors, or they may prefer indoor … Continue reading
