Fitness Journal – Will The Rain Ever Stop?

It’s raining again – and again and again. Tonight Harry Potter opens and my husband and I want to catch the midnight showing so we can review it prior to letting our daughter see it. Today’s workout was more about focusing on meeting goals as needed than on doing something fun. 30 minutes on the treadmill resulted in just over 2 miles traveled and I’m right on target to maintain my 15 minute mile. I was worn out after the treadmill and skipped my weight training today. I wasn’t feeling well and you may remember that I mentioned my face … Continue reading

Fitness Journal – Take It To The Park

It’s back to the park today and for good reason. The park is a great place for the kids to go and play – they need the outdoor time and to be honest – this hasn’t been the summer for outdoor playtime. There’s been so much rain (11 inches in June) and 44 days of consecutive rain showers. The rain comes in waves, we may get a couple of hours of sunshine in between and while we are grateful that after more than 2 years of drought that we are once again the recipient of rain – it’s great, but … Continue reading

Fitness Journal – Family Sick Day

There’s nothing worse than waking up not feeling well. Okay, there’s one thing that’s worse – when you wake up not feeling well and the rest of the family appears to be suffering from the same malady that you are. That makes it pretty rotten – all the way around. As a mom, my first duty is to take care of the kiddo, but when you’re feeling rotten – – it’s hard to find the energy. Don’t Exercise When You’re Sick A good rule of thumb is to not exercise when you’re sick. But like with many other things in … Continue reading

Fitness Journal – Lucky Day?

Was today a lucky day for you? I know it wasn’t what I would call a phenomenally lucky day for me. But then I’m not prone to looking at days as ‘lucky’ or not. We got up early and went to the park because for once, it wasn’t raining – go figure. We had 44 days of consecutive rain and while it doesn’t rain all day, the storms tend to make it muggy and unpleasant outdoors. My daughter tends to be very sensitive to the heat when it’s combined with the mugginess so we limited our park trip to just … Continue reading

The Fitness Blog Week in Review: June 30 – July 6

One week into July and in some parts of the country, the temperatures are scorchers and down here in Texas, we’re breaking rainfall records and wondering what happened to our sun. The United States celebrated its birthday and in Great Britain two young princes celebrate the memory of their mother on her birthday. It’s been a busy week and let’s explore what we talked about in the Fitness blog this week: Saturday, June 30 Our End of June Fitness Goal Check went down our checklist of fitness goals. The point of these fitness goal checks is to check out how … Continue reading

Fitness Journal – Strength Training Today

Today’s workout focused primarily on strength training. Cardiovascular workouts are important I will walk my mile or more as needed. In the meanwhile, we start out with the warm-up and limbering stretches. Comfortable clothes are required and I didn’t both with shoes, most of what I was about to do I do at home and on the carpet, bare feet are more comfortable and I can use my toes for counter balance as necessary. (Try it sometime to see if you are more comfortable doing some strength training without shoes). I have my heart rate monitor, but I don’t pay … Continue reading

Fitness Journal – Steady As She Goes

It’s a holiday today and we’re heading out as a group to spend the afternoon together. First and foremost, hit the treadmill for a 15 minute mile. That’s right, we’re doing a 15 minute mile this morning. Primarily, I’m concerned with the heavy duty workout I did last night trying to curb my own frustration. Because I didn’t want to over train, I set the timer on the stopwatch for 15 minutes and poured it on. I kept the pace comfortable and monitored my heart rate. I wanted to do my best without overdoing it. I also wanted to see … Continue reading

Fitness Journal – Pushing the Envelope

Today’s workout was more necessary than I thought it would be. It began with my morning stretch and treadmill stroll for 30 minutes at 2.8. I had to get out of the house early and I had to get a series of errands done. I did my bare minimum workout in an effort to make sure that it was done before I headed out to go shopping and more. By the time I was done and back home with my daughter it was after 3 in the afternoon. I put her down for a nap and then went to check … Continue reading

Fitness Journal – Healing & Frustration

One of the things I despise about taking medications is how those medications can make you feel. When you are taking muscle relaxants, it can affect your performance of physical exercise. But worse yet, when you’re taking muscle relaxants and pain medication – even in the barest minimums – it can leave you dreaming so vividly that when you wake up, you are actually disoriented and out of sorts. That’s the problem that confronted my workout today. I had a muscle spasm last night, late and the pain medication was the only thing to get through the fact that my … Continue reading

Journal – Kick Off

I mentioned yesterday that I would be publishing my July journal to the fitness blog. It’s my way of demonstrating how you can keep a journal that promotes your own personal fitness. First and foremost, my journaling motivates me. It inspires me to keep going – even when I’m tired, discouraged or otherwise out of sorts. Journaling is methodical and it actually soothes me as well as inspires me to do more and to reach farther. It’s also a learning experience. Through my journaling, I discover things about myself that I didn’t know or I figure out what parts of … Continue reading
