FUMBLE!

In honor of the NFL’s big game this weekend, our family is playing a lot of a game we like to call Fumble! To begin, we find any ball lying around the house. Our favorite to use is actually not a proper ball at all, but a cat toy. It is a little plush, bouncy blue and black soccer ball that is perfect because of its small size (about that of a small Clementine) and overall elusiveness. The game starts simply enough, with my daughter and I tossing the ball back and forth pretending to play basketball or football (or … Continue reading

Not a Football Fan? Have an Un Super Bowl Party!

Okay, so not everybody gets into football. No problem. There is no reason you can’t still have just as much fun on Super Bowl Sunday while others do their thing. Just throw a simultaneous Un Super Bowl Party! Let the football fans have one room and one TV to enjoy the kicking, passing, rushing, tackling, sacking, and interceptions, while you enjoy your own good time in another room. Maybe some of your friends would like to drop off their kids or husbands (or wives, who knows?) in your family room to watch the big game, and join you for an … Continue reading

Pro Football Hall of Fame Contest

I’ve actually been to a Superbowl. Yep. In 1983, I watched John Riggins make that infamous 43-yard run into the end zone, and kill any hope the Miami Dolphins had of beating the Washington Redskins. It was very exciting, mostly because of the energy coming from the crowd. Because it was at the Rose Bowl, there were a lot of Hollyweird celebrities in attendance. I remember that Linda Carter (Wonder Woman) was even more beautiful in person, gracious, and quite a big football fan. At the time, I wasn’t. I was actually working a concessions stand, but took breaks to … Continue reading

Tom Brady + Gisele Bundchen = One Sizzling Hot Couple

His team may not be headed to the Super Bowl, but New England Patriots quarterback Tom Brady has someone special to share his misery with. Other news sources say that the Victoria’s Secret supermodel comforted Brady when his Patriots were recently knocked out of the NFL playoffs. So how these two get together in the first place? Well as you can imagine looks had a hand in it. Let’s face it this … Continue reading

NFL Championships: History in the Making!

I am so excited! The Chicago Bears are heading to the Super Bowl after soundly defeating the New Orleans Saints 39-14 yesterday. It was a great game, and the Bears took the Saints to task despite having important players like Tommie Harris and Mike Brown out due to injuries. Teams Making History The Bears made history by once again taking the NFC Championship and heading off to another Super Bowl. Fans have waited 21 years for this event, and it appeared that it would be a repeat of their last visit to the Big Show, as the New England Patriots … Continue reading

Marriage in the News: Labor Pains and Football Games

Let me start by saying, wow! I was blown away when I heard this on the news last night while watching highlights of the Bear’s game, and I looked up the story today for more details. It’s about a school teacher named Colleen Pavelka, and she’s become the model of the perfect wife for many husbands who are ardent football fans. Colleen Pavelka decided to have the birth of her baby induced Friday so her husband Mark could attend the Chicago Bear’s Playoff game against the New Orleans Saints. Sure, it was a big game, leading the Bears to the … Continue reading

Entertaining: A Few Super Bowl Party Tips

Many people that don’t regularly watch professional football still enjoy the Super Bowl. It’s one of the most highly rated sporting events on television. In fact, it has at times been the most highly rated event of any kind on TV. Advertisers spend millions of dollars for mere seconds of time during the biggest game of the year. Sounds like an event deserving of a party! The NFL Playoffs finish up this weekend, and then we’ll know who’s off to the Super Bowl on February 4. I’m a Chicago Bear’s fan, and if my beloved Bears beat the Saints this … Continue reading

Is Your Spouse into Sports?

Is your husband (or maybe your wife) all wrapped up in the NFL Playoffs? This is an exciting time of year for football fans. This Sunday, we’ll learn which teams will head to the Super Bowl (hopefully, the Chicago Bears will be one of them!). Of course, then your spouse will have to see who wins the Super Bowl in couple of weeks too. Will you watch the game(s) with him, do your own thing, or will you sigh and think, “I can’t wait until football season is over”? If you’re not into football, you probably don’t see what the … Continue reading

BYU Squares Off Against the U

Today is the all-important BYU versus U of U football game. It really is a big deal. Sadly I cannot watch it because the house I am at for the weekend does not receive the station. For those of who grew up in Utah or as diehard BYU fans you may understand what I am talking about. For those of who do no follow football or care nothing for either of the teams then this blog will not matter to you. I grew up in a household with a true blue all the way through BYU football fan—my dad. He … Continue reading

Things That Make You Go Hmmm… Behind Bars

You don’t have to live in the Midwest, or have a husband who is a rabid fan of college football to know that this weekend’s big match up between Big 10 rivals Ohio State and Michigan is a HUGE deal. In fact, you don’t even have to be a free man (or woman) to be making plans for the big game. Just ask prisoners at northeastern Ohio’s Columbiana County jail. According to news reports, the sheriff there is fuming about plans for an inmate pizza party during the Ohio State-Michigan football game. “A jail is a jail,” Sheriff David Smith … Continue reading
