Thanks for Giving

For giving me the keys to the car last Saturday night, money for my field trip, a roof over my head, a closet full of clothes, three meals a day… Thanksgiving may be the only day of the year you hear those words uttered by your self-absorbed teenagers. Then again, you may happen to parent a child who defies typical teen-dom and actually demonstrates an attitude of gratitude on a daily basis. If this is the case, then you have one more thing to be thankful for next Thursday. Children aren’t the only ones who are guilty of taking things … Continue reading

Primary Time: Saying Thank You

One important thing that we need to do as parents is to thank the people who serve so willingly in Primary. Often we only think of thanking our children’s teachers, when there really are so many that serve in the Primary. A simple note or a homemade card and a plate of brownies would go a long way in brightening these workers lives. You should consider the immense work and effort that the Primary presidency completes each week. They handle calling the teachers, making sure every class has a teacher each week. They set up Primary each week, conduct, and … Continue reading

My Personal Note of Thanksgiving

Good morning, as I stated earlier in Family Traditions: A Day To Give Thanks, we have a lot of personal family traditions here to celebrate Thanksgiving and this note is one that I am adding to my traditions because this time last year, I was just getting ramped up to start writing for Families.com. I want to begin my note with a personal thank you to all our readers here at Families.com. You come, you visit, you participate in our forums and you read our blogs. You are in large measure, the reason we are all here. It’s for you … Continue reading

Happy Thanksgiving: Giving Thanks

Well, another year is almost over and we have the opportunity to look back and reflect. We can indulge in wonderful, homemade foods and the company of the people we love. I hope each of you and all the people in your lives has a lovely, joyous Thanksgiving Day tomorrow. Giving Thanks When you get ready to eat dinner, if someone asks you to give thanks, don’t be shy. It’s not as hard to do as you think. Just think of all your blessings and thank your Higher Power for them. Or, if you prefer to keep it short and … Continue reading

Thanksgiving: Giving Thanks a Little Early

Can’t You Almost Smell the Turkey? It’s only more one week, or seven more days, or 168 hours, until Thanksgiving. Mere hours until we once again gather with people we love to celebrate another chance to show our appreciation for everything good in our lives. I wanted to take a moment to share some of the things I’m thankful for, even though I’m giving my list a little early (I’ll be cooking on Thanksgiving!) Being married to my best friend Having four beautiful, healthy children My mom, brother, and extended family True friends A comfortable home Necessities met My faith … Continue reading

Giving Thanks

With Thanksgiving right around the corner, many people begin taking stock of the many things they are thankful for in their lives. Some are material things, or a great job, but most of us are also thankful for the people in our lives. Why not let them know it? Instead of waiting until everyone goes around the table at dinner to mention something he or she is thankful for, why not start now? Let your husband or wife know just how much you appreciate him or her. While you may assume that the other person already knows, and he or … Continue reading

Happy Mother’s Day to All Moms

Good morning! Happy Mother’s Day! I wanted to take a few minutes today and share some personal thoughts about Mother’s Day and what it means to me. Growing up, the two primary influences in my life were my mother and my grandmother. I never knew my father and many of my friends growing up were either in the same boat as I; or they saw their fathers very rarely. While I know today is Mother’s Day and a day that we honor and celebrate our mothers, grandmothers and more – I wanted to take a moment to be grateful that … Continue reading
