Tis the season for snow and ice… sculptures. The holiday season is when many (if not all) major hotels and resorts deck their halls with spectacularly festive creations. One company in particular has a long-standing tradition of displaying the most amazing ice sculptures. How’s that for a catchy tag line? One transportation group says if penguins could talk they would likely urge travelers to think about them and take a bus. “Motorcoaches are nice and don’t melt our ice.” Another great line. The hits keep coming in an eight-page educational booklet produced by the American Bus Association aimed at sending an important message to policy-makers. The pamphlet is titled “Save A Penguin. Resorts are moving beyond just recycling newspapers and are now harnessing the power of the sun to transport visitors. A resort in St. Lucia just unveiled a solar-powered ferry—the first of its kind in the Caribbean. The Sunshine Express has photovoltaic panels mounted on the roof and carries up to 15 guests from the Discovery at Marigot Bay resort to waterfront bars and restaurants using the sun’s rays. GOOD NEWS FOR GIRLS Leave it to trendy W Hotel to come up with a “Wonder Woman” program. The resort is celebrating females by glamming up its bathrooms with a woman’s touch. (Which means you can lounge in style in a bathroom designed by a woman.) By next year guest will be able to relax in a bathroom, which incorporates “soothing creamy color schemes, decadent tubs, fabulous lighting and extra counter space for toiletries.” According to hotel execs, the tubs are being equipped with retractable nozzles for hair washing and a tray to hold bathing items.
