Do You Have Your Kids’ Halloween Costumes Yet?

It’s 8:30 AM the day before Halloween; I don’t have Tyler’s costume. If you read my previous blog, you know that we returned to New Orleans last week. I wasn’t planning to do anything for Halloween but when I picked Tyler up from school yesterday, his teacher told me that they are having a party tomorrow at the site of the new school. Right now, the lower grades (pre-K through 3rd) are attending school at a temporarily location. The rest of the school (grades 4th through 12th) has moved to the new campus. And I do mean campus. The school reminds … Continue reading

Gorilla and a Cage Costume

I’ve been busy for the last few days making a costume. I don’t know how I get trapped in these things. Two years ago we went to a small local amusement park on the Sunday before Halloween. The park had advertised a half off day for anyone in costume. They even let the children trick or treat in the gift shops and we got to ride all the rides we wanted. The park had a costume parade and invited all the children to participate. My oldest, dressed as a zombie, won $25 for the scariest costume. The next year we … Continue reading

Halloween Costumes for Pregnant Moms

Expecting mothers don’t have a lot of choices in Halloween costumes. I think dressing up is great fun for parents, even if you just wear a special hat or tie on a pirate’s bandanna. You shouldn’t have to miss out on the fun just because you are pregnant. A friend of mine one year was quite pregnant on Halloween. On an impulse, she decided to dress as a pregnant cat. She glued baby bottle nipples down the front of her shirt, put on a headband with cat ears, and drew whiskers on her face. The effect was hilarious! Another friend … Continue reading

My Favorite Halloween Couple Costumes: Spookiest Costumes

I didn’t exactly set out intending to do a My Favorite Halloween Couple Costumes series, but that’s what happened. I’ve covered funniest, sexiest, period, and classic characters costumes. I have one final category left: spookiest. I’ve never dressed up as anything spooky for Halloween. I have a sneaking suspicion neither has Wayne. (I know he hasn’t since we’ve been together, but I can’t vouch for when he was a wee thing.) It might be fun to break out of our molds and try something completely different though. Here’s the costumes I could see us doing that with: • Ghostly Gentleman … Continue reading

My Favorite Halloween Couple Costumes: Sexy Costumes

Wayne can pull off sexy. He’s tall and athletic and in good shape. He’d make a dashing officer or chiseled gladiator. Then there’s me. Sexy and I don’t really mix. For one thing, I’d need to lose a dramatic amount of weight to make most of the costumes work on me. For another, I’ve got more of the girl next door demeanor. But I like to look at the sexy costumes nonetheless. I fantasize about living in another dimension where I am in good enough shape where Wayne and I could both wear coordinating sexy costumes. (But then I wonder … Continue reading

Dressing Your Pets For Halloween

Let’s face it. Dogs and cats in costumes are pretty darn cute! Some pets like being dressed up; some pets will tolerate being dressed up. Some won’t stand for it at all! If you are thinking about including your pets in the Halloween costume parade, here are some ideas for you. Dress your pet as another animal. A black dog just needs a white stripe down her back to be an adorable (and stink free) skunk! A leopard patterned coat makes a great jungle cat costume for your furry friend. Dress your pet as a super hero. Capes aren’t just … Continue reading
