Get Ready to Grill

May is National BBQ month. It is also the time of year that we honor the special ladies in our lives who have spent countless hours slaving over hot stoves to get dinner on the table. So what better time to say thank you then by firing up the grill and whipping up a simple (yet delicious) meal for M-O-M. For the past few days I have been guest blogging in FOOD with the hopes of inspiring semi-regular cooks to get in the kitchen and let their culinary skills take over. For this grill blog I dug deep into my … Continue reading

Stuffed Hamburgers

I don’t know why but I’m a big fan of homemade grilled hamburgers. I know it’s a lot easier to buy the pretty little pre-formed, already made hamburgers in the frozen section but it just doesn’t taste the same to me. Last summer I saw a recipe for stuffed beef patties and that was all the inspiration I needed. Not only do my hamburgers have to be homemade now. . .but they have to be stuffed as well. My husband says I’m getting way too picky. . .but then again, he always asks for seconds. Making hamburgers from scratch is … Continue reading

Cuban Hamburger—Oh MY!

I saw this recipe today and I kid you not, it nearly made me ditch my low-carbohydrate diet and run to the nearest store to buy some burger buns. This burger is a delicious, juicy twist on a classic Cuban sandwich. If you’ve never had a Cuban sandwich, you’re missing out—flavorful, juicy pork, Swiss cheese, pickles—it’s delicious. But I have a sneaking suspicion this burger is going to be a close second. For this recipe you’ll need: 2 pounds ground chuck (20% fat for best flavor) Salt and freshly ground black pepper 1/2 cup best-quality mayonnaise 3 cloves roasted garlic, … Continue reading

Jalapeno-Blue Cheese Burgers with Firehouse French Fries

Never one to shy away from spicy dishes, I loved this one when I found it. The jalapeno and blue cheese combination is perfect for the burger and the firehouse fries (named so because they were invented by firefighters) can be made as spicy as you can stand them. Jalapeno-Blue Cheese Burgers For the burgers recipe, you will need two pounds of ground beef, six jalapeno peppers, crumbled blue cheese, onion powder, garlic powder, soy sauce, sliced Swiss cheese, and hamburger buns. To prep for this recipe, you will need to seed and chop your six jalapenos. Preheat your grill … Continue reading

The Best Hamburger in the World

I am a burger girl. I absolutely love a good hamburger. Fortunately, I grew up in the hometown of the best hamburger in the world. I grew up hearing about Dyers Burgers in Memphis. My own grandfather used to rave about them. I would pass by the original restaurant several times a week on my way to work, but to me, it just looked like an old condemned building. In fact, I guess it was because it was eventually torn down and replaced with a strip mall. Being somewhat scared by the outside, I never ate a Dyers hamburger until … Continue reading
