Lego Harry Potter Years 1-4 Video Game Review

The makers of the Lego series of video games offers Lego Harry Potter for the Wii, a fun bit of entertainment for fans. Covering the Harry Potter years from 1-4, this game combines all of the charm of the Harry Potter world with the creative game play of Lego. There is a good mix of puzzle-solving game play and exploration. The emphasis on battle play, blowing up other Lego character until they fall apart into their individual pieces, is more downplayed than in the previous Lego series, such as Lego Star Wars and Lego Batman. I personally I think this … Continue reading

Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince – the Movie

Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince is the long anticipated sixth movie in the Harry Potter series. This is a pivotal movie, as it really shifts the focus of the series as the conflict becomes darker and the danger becomes more real. This film took a lot more liberties from the book from the other movies. It opens with Harry in a train station, not at the Dursleys. From there the film takes us through the beginning of the book and Harry’s visit to school. The action continues to build as Harry returns to school. The movie also follows … Continue reading

“Harry Potter” Bollywood Brouhaha

The studio in charge of distributing those mega-popular Harry Potter films is no slouch when it comes to making money. Recently, Warner Bros. announced that the highly anticipated sixth installment in the blockbuster film franchise about the boy wizard, “Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince” would no longer be in theaters in time for the Thanksgiving holiday. Rather, in an attempt to capitalize on an open date during the busy (See: mega-profitable) summer season, the studio decided to sit on the film until July 17, 2009, when it would be released nationwide. Most movie critics call the move strategic given … Continue reading

Hatter Potter Prequel for Sale

If you are interested in adding the unseen work to your Harry Potter collection you should plan to dig deep (really deep) to get in on the bidding action. According to organizers running the “What’s Your Story?” auction, the 800-word Harry Potter prequel written by the boy wizard’s creator J.K. Rowling appears on pieces of paper that are each only slightly larger than a postcard. Auction insiders say the famous author used both sides of the cards to hand-write what some are calling a prequel to her seven-book Harry Potter saga. Rowling’s work is one of 13 shrunken works to … Continue reading

Bad News for Movie Types

In what some are calling one of the most shocking deaths to hit the area in years, police confirm that a British teenage actor who plays a minor role in the upcoming “Harry Potter” film was stabbed to death during a fight in London yesterday. And get this–the brawl allegedly centered on a stolen cellphone. According to London police, 18-year-old actor Rob Knox was stabbed after he got caught up in a fight outside a bar in southwest London early Saturday. The teen won the role of Ravenclaw student Marcus Belby in the upcoming film “Harry Potter and the Half-Blood … Continue reading

More Dream Trips for Kids

If you have a Harry Potter fan in your home and haven’t solidified your summer travel plans—–stop what you are doing. I just found the ultimate getaway for kids (and their parents) who are fascinated with the boy wizard. Never mind about Universal Orlando Resort’s new Harry Potter theme park that I detailed in a previous blog. “The Wizarding World of Harry Potter” is not scheduled to open at Universal’s Islands of Adventure theme park until late next. In the meantime why not embark on a once-in-a-lifetime trip to the places that inspired the Potter series? The seven-night trip takes … Continue reading

Harry Potter Fans About to See Double and Robert Redford’s Dream Project

Seven books, eight movies? Hmm… doesn’t seem to add up unless you are talking about the phenomenally successful Harry Potter series and you are trying to cash in BIG TIME. According to movie producers, the boy wizard will star in not one, but two films adapted from J.K. Rowling’s last “Potter” installment, “Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows.” The story will reportedly be split into two parts on the big screen. The first film is slated for release in November 2010, with part two following in May 2011. Producers say it was impossible to include all the elements of the … Continue reading

Harry Potter Scene It? The DVD Game

Movie fans should give the Scene It? DVD games a try. Our family got the 2nd edition of Harry Potter Scene It? for Christmas. The game can be played with two to four players, or in teams. We divided up into three teams, my husband and one nine year old were one team, our other nine year old and I were another team, and our fourteen year old was on his own. He skunked us all. I’ve heard that kids can trounce adults in the Disney version, too! You do need a DVD player to play the game. An on … Continue reading

Potter’s Glasses Honor Holocaust Victims

Just file it under: the most unique way to reuse eyeglasses. Daniel Radcliffe, the young actor who played the bespectacled schoolboy wizard in the “Harry Potter” films, may never look at his first eyeglasses in the same way again. The 18-year-old just donated the glasses he wore as a child to a one-of-a-kind exhibition marking the horrors of the Holocaust. Radcliffe donated the tiny oval, gray metal-framed pair of glasses he wore as a 6-year-old to the exhibit where it joins specs belonging to Yoko Ono, talk show host Jerry Springer, former British Prime Minister Tony Blair and other celebrities. … Continue reading

Rowling’s New Adventure, Tyra to Adopt and Britney Tops Santa’s “Naughty List

Author J.K. Rowling is either giving millions of Harry Potter fans reason to hope or she’s leading them on big time. The 42-year-old multi-millionaire recently hinted that she might add an eighth book to the boy wizard franchise. You’ll recall earlier this year Rowling ended the series with the release of the seventh and supposed final novel, Harry Potter and The Deathly Hallows. Now the author is revealing that she is tempted to revisit the world of Hogwarts just one more time although the story may not be built around the title character. Rowling told reporters, “There have been times … Continue reading
